Future Fiction #57: Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Three new cover reveals! Take a look:

When Antonia gets a disturbing message from her brother, she drops everything to search for him. What she finds is Jack—an interstellar being claiming to have been dragged into mortal existence against its will by the same cult her brother was with.

Jack just wants to get home, out of the human vessel it’s currently trapped in, and back to immortality. In exchange for her help, Jack offers to lead Antonia to her brother.

The two go on a violent ride—one desperate to survive and the other bent on revenge.

Will either of them be long for this world?

Hellbound in a Hurry by Cheryl Low. Releases in February 2020 (self published). You may have read my rave review of Cheryl’s Infernal last month, and if so, you’ll know I will drop everything to read a new book of hers. This sounds SO GOOD and I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy!! Horror fans take note: you need to add her books to your TBR, right away!

The dangerous magic of The Night Circus meets the powerful historical exploration of The Underground Railroad in this timely and unsettling novel, set against the darkly glamorous backdrop of New York City at the dawn of WWII.

Amidst the whir of city life, a girl from Harlem is drawn into the glittering underworld of Manhattan, where she’s hired to use her knives to strike fear amongst its most dangerous denizens.

But the ghosts from her past are always by her side—and history has appeared on her doorstep to threaten the people she loves most.

Can one woman ever sacrifice enough to save an entire community?

Trouble the Saints is a dazzling, daring novel—a magical love story, a compelling chronicle of interracial tension, and an altogether brilliant and deeply American saga.

Trouble the Saints by Alaya Dawn Johnson. Releases in June 2020 from Tor Books. This sounds like a really good combination of a lot of elements I love, and that cover is gorgeous and brilliant! Can’t wait:-)

Lawyer Aiya Ritsehrer struggles to obtain an appeal and new trial for her latest client, a robotnik identified as 812-3. 812-3 is convicted of murdering a human worker but claims that he did not do it. It is Aiya’s task to determine grounds for an appeal and uncover the true facts of the case.

However, robotnici have only recently been awarded legal rights on Earth, and the military complex on Europa is resistant to the implementation of these rights on the Jovian moon. Aiya’s must navigate her own interpersonal drama and prejudices while struggling to make the right decision.

An Unnatural Life by Erin K. Wagner. Releases in September 2020 from Tor.com. Tor.com is killing it with cover reveals lately, and this just popped up last week. I have a soft spot for stories about robots and what their rights are, so this could be just the book for me.

An Unnatural Life sounds interesting… the AI having rights thing could either make it way ahead of its time, or it might fall flat? I don’t know. I’m just wondering how relatable it will be I guess?

Trouble the Saints and Hellbound in a Hurry both look awesome too! Great picks this week Tammy!

  2. Every week I come here just KNOWING my wishlist will be growing. I really want to checkout Hellbound in a Hurry. The word “cult” sucked me in. I also like the other two as well. You’re killing me!

  3. From a cover and blurb perspective, Trouble the Saints is the only book which really draws me in. Hellbound in a Hurry’s blurb is interesting and the cover for An Unnatural Life but find the opposite items less interesting.

    Thanks for sharing!

  4. I love the sound of An Unnatural Life and The Trouble with Saints – as ever, you are tempting me just when I decided to cut back!!! But that last one is definitely calling to me!

  5. The Captain

At it again! Adding more interesting book to me life. Law + Robot = win. I will have to get a copy at some point. Also I did read the new Murderbot book yesterday. I loved it! I am still trying to decide how to review it because spoilers make it very difficult. But the book was the highlight of the month!
    x The Captain

Oh wow, I’m so glad you loved it! I won’t be getting to it until release month, probably, but I can’t wait:-)

  6. Trouble the Saints is one that intrigues me, especially as it is going to include The Underground Railroad in it, while being magical to some extent and also set in such an interesting time period. I will be curious to see what comes of it — and wow, what a cover!
