Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
And here we are at the end of the year! This will be my final Over-Booked of 2019, which is OK because honestly, I’m ready for 2020. Huge thanks to Tor.com and Orbit, who are responsible for most of this book haul, for giving me so much to look forward to in 2020.
Physical ARCs for Review:
First up is this glorious haul from Tor.com. These were all surprise arrivals and they are already on my TBR.
The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water by Zen Cho. This is a Wuxia fantasy with martial arts, bandits and thieves and more, it sounds like a blast!
Hearts of Oak by Eddie Robson. A mystery with a talking cat?? Yes I am definitely reading this:-D
Flyaway by Kathleen Jennings. This appears to be a Gothic horror story set in Australia, and that description alone is a reason to read this!
Anthropocene Rag by Alex Irvine. “Huck Finn meets Willy Wonka.” Yep, sign me up:-D
Harrow the Ninth by Tamsin Muir. This was a complete surprise, and although the first book in the series, Gideon the Ninth, had its ups and downs, I’m still curious to see what happens next.
Network Effect by Martha Wells. There was some screaming when I opened this package, I’ll have to admit. I’m very excited to see a full length Murderbot novel coming soon!
Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi. This is a lovely finished copy, and a Riot Baby pin too. I’ll be reading this next month, and it’s already getting a lot of good buzz.
Huge thanks to Orbit Books for these two gorgeous ARCs: Legacy of Ash by Matthew Ward, a huge book that’s almost 800 pages long! Still, I’ve heard good things so I’ll be planning ahead to get this read by April.
Also from Orbit, The Ranger of Marzanna by Jon Skovron. This is another April release that sounds really good. Orbit has been publishing so many good books lately, and it looks like 2020 is going to be another good year for them!
The Mother Code by Carole Stivers was a recent Future Fiction pick, and I believe I won this in a giveaway that I don’t remember entering, lol. But I’m thrilled to have a copy! Thanks to Berkley for the ARC:-D
Finally, another Future Fiction pick, Burn the Dark by S.A. Hunt. I believe this novel may have been self-published previously, although I’m not completely sure. This is a January release that I will try to get to, although my January is already pretty packed. Big thanks to Tor for the copy!
Digital ARCs for Review:
I HAD to download The Book of Koli by M.R. Carey as soon as I saw it on NetGalley. My excitement for this new series is out of control at this point! Thanks Orbit!
And drum roll please…Tammy is about to read her very first AUDIO BOOK. I know, so many of you are audio experts and are probably laughing at me right now. One of my favorite authors, Rod Belcher, has an Audible Original out now called The Queen’s Road and I’m thrilled that he asked me to review it. Once I get my brand new wireless ear buds out of the box and figure out how to use them (!!!!) I’ll start listening to this! (You think I’m kidding but I am not.) Not up on Goodreads yet, but I linked it to the Audible page. Thank you Rod and Audible!
I’m loving reading your blog lately because you read such different books and genres to me and I am learning about so many new books which may interest me too! Can’t wait for these reviews to come through and am looking forward to seeing your thoughts on them x

Thanks so much Olivia! Maybe I can tempt you into reading something different:-)
So many of these look like amazing reads. I’m super excited for that Zen Cho book! Also, Network Effect!!!
I’m starting to see that new Jon Skovron book everywhere. I haven’t read any of his work yet but I do have a book of his in my TBR pile.
Happy reading!
I haven’t read Jon Skovron either, but I know a lot of people love the last series he wrote.
I wanted to dive into The Ranger of Marzanna the moment it arrived, but I’ve got so may Jan/Feb releases that need attention . . . and that pile needs to start shrinking! LOL

Yes, super excited:-D
You are so BAD for my TBR list, lol! Happy Holidays Tammy
Ha ha, so sorry!
M. R. Carey… Definitely going to add that one to my TBR list. I keep thinking I’d like to try an audio book too but haven’t got around to it yet. Hope you enjoy
I feel like I might love audio once I get started. It’s just jumping in that’s hard…
Ouuuu! So many good books as usual.
I just request Legacy of Ash on Netgalley. Fingers crossed!
Good luck:-)
The Zen Cho book sounds cool! It’s on my wishlist now, thank you 😀
It does, right? And the story and cover don’t immediately seem to go together, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see!
Great haul! I hope you enjoy your first audiobook!! So excited. 🙂
Thanks Stormi, I hope to finish listening soon and post my review:-)
Tor.com really spoiled us this week! I was especially excited about the ARC of Network Effect! And thanks for reminding me about the Belcher audiobook! That had been put in my account and I had completely forgotten the release date was this week! Perfect because I need a new listen. I hope we’ll both love it, and I wish you best of luck with your first audiobook!
I’ve started the audio book and now I have to figure out how to take notes. Ha ha. My plan is to jot down some thoughts/notes after each chapter. Do you take notes when you listen?
I have The Mother Code for review too. It sounds really interesting so hopefully we’ll both enjoy it. 🙂
I hope we both love it as well, it definitely has potential:-)
Lots to look forward to. Earlier this year I read the classic A Hero Born by Jin Yong, the first of the classic wuxia Legend of the Condor Heroes, and really enjoyed it, so I’d very much like to try The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water. Legacy of Ash has me curious, as well. And I’d very much like to keep reading the Murderbot series (read the first two so far). I hope you enjoy the audiobook. I had a rocky start with them but I’m enjoying them more these days.
I’ve read the first two Murderbot books as well, still need to read 3 and 4. I’ve started the audio book and it’s so different! It’s definitely going to be an…experience.
Oh wow. Tor really delivered!

They really did, not sure what I did to get so lucky…
I want to read almost all the Tor.Com titles, I especially have my eyes on The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water by Zen Cho, Anthropocene Rag by Alex Irvine and Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi.
I also need to catch up on the Murderbot novellas, I hope to read Rogue Protocol before the end of the year. 🙂

I still need to read Murderbot #3 and #4, so I need to squeeze those in before Network Effect comes out:-)
So jealous of Harrow the Ninth! I requested it and am hoping they send it since I enjoyed Gideon so much. Also had to add a couple of the others to my TBR as I hadn’t heard of them yet. You had me at talking cat 🙂
I hope you get it, Liz!
That Tor.com pile is so good! I have a lot of eARCs of them, and I’m hoping my reading pile will let me get to them early because I’m super excited about many of them.
Caitlin G. recently posted…Review: FATE OF THE FALLEN by Kel Kade
There are three Tor.com novellas coming out in January and I need to start reading them. They have SO many books coming out next year!
I’m always so jealous of your glorious book hauls. Especially The Book of Koli- I haven’t requested it since I’m reasonably sure I won’t get approved- but literally every Tor Book ever. Anthropocene Rag has me very curious. I’ll look forward to your thoughts!
I hope you can get approved! Have you worked with Orbit in the past?
That’s a lovely haul. I would definitely love that MRCarey book. And good luck with your first audio book.
