Ten Books I Wanted to Read in 2019 – But Just Didn’t Have Time

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!

Today is a Top Ten Freebie, and as much as it pains me to share this with you, today I’m talking about ten of my most anticipated books of 2019 that somehow managed to go unread. Most of these are review books (sorry publishers!) and a couple are books I picked up at Comic Con. But all of them are books I’m DYING to read, and I’m still going to try to get to them in 2020. I know there are a couple of weeks left in the year, so it’s possible I might still read one or two. No links this week, since this is simply a sad, visual picture of neglect!

Do you have any books that you regret not reading this year? Bonus points: let me know in the comments which of these you most recommend:-D

  1. The Bone Ships was a great read, and I have the first book in Rebecca Roanhorse’s series waiting for a read.

As for regrets, too many to count! Just looking at the review pile next to my desk, that includes Outcasts of Order & Mage-Fire War by L.E. Modesitt, Veil of Spears by Bradley P. Beaulieu, and Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S. Villoso.

I read and loved the first in the Heartstone series and then forgot to read the rest. Good thing you reminded me about it.

Thanks Lisa! I know Storm of Locusts is pretty short, so hopefully it will get to the top of the pile soon:-)

  3. Just got through Steel Crow Saga myself, it was a fun ride! I want to start Nevernight next year (or at the very least, read ONE Kristoff book). I’m getting to Bone Ships after I get to Barker’s other series, as I bought the whole trilogy and haven’t read any of them yet. Dear lord our TBRs….

  4. I wish I’d read The Hate U Give this year because I finally bought it and I’ve been wanting to read it for ages but I’ve been more in the mood for fantasy books recently.

I absolutely LOVED The Beautiful. There seems to be mixed reviews for it but I thought it was great. One of my favourites from this year!

  5. For me, this sort of list will always be much longer than the one of books I finished. Just not enough time. I’d hoped to finish some series I’ve started (Ann Leckie’s Imperial Radch, Emma Newman’s Planetfall, Robert Jackson Bennett’s Divine Cities, Richard Knaak’s Black City Saint). Of your list I’d most like to read Darkdawn (have a copy but need to read the first 2 books first) and The Bone Ships. Good luck getting to some of these in 2020!

Great idea! I have so many books I wanted to read this year too, but didn’t get too. I would have The Beautiful on mys list too – I might try to read it before the year ends!

  7. Darkdawn, Flamebringer, and Steel Crow Saga would all be on my list too haha along with a million other books! I hope you love all these if you find the time to read them!

What a great topic for an end-of-the-year list. I have so many I wanted to read and didn’t get to (like everything sitting unread in my kindle or on my bookshelf). I hope you get a chance to read them soon! I’m hoping to make time for The Remaking either at the end of this month or in January. I’d also like to read Storm of Locusts at some point.

  9. I’m so impressed that you could narrow yours down to 10. I wouldn’t even know where to start. I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t be bragging about that? xD I soooo recommend Steel Crow Saga and Darkdawn, though! I still have to read Bone Ships myself. I started it the other day, but it’s something I’m going to have to focus on reading and not read along with something else, so I put it on hold. The beginning is really interesting, though. :3

  10. I still need to read Darkdawn. In fact I’ve bought the audio version. I suspect that might help me get to it more quickly.
