It’s almost the end of SciFiMonth 2019 (weep), so for my last list of the event, I want to share my favorite science fiction books of the year so far. 2019 has been a pretty good year in general for speculative fiction, and even though I didn’t read all the SF I wanted to, I’m very happy with this list. I came up with a total of sixteen favorites, and you can click on the titles if you’d like to read my reviews.
You will probably see some of these books appear on my other Best Of lists closer to the end of the year, but I did want to shine a light on ALL the science fiction I loved this year. Have you read any of these books?
Also, heads up. I have a giveaway starting on Saturday to close out SciFiMonth, and you’ll be able to choose any sci-fi book I’ve talked about all month. Any of these books are up for grabs!
Looks like you’ve read some amazing sci-fi this year! All Systems Red and Sisters of the Vast Black are both on my TBR, and I’ve heard such good things about Blake Crouch’s work that I need to give it a try. One of my friends really enjoyed A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World so I should really check it out. Jess @ Jessticulates recently posted…Top Ten Tuesday | Thank You for the Music
I LOVED Song for a New Day. So special. I can’t believe I still haven’t read The Wanderers, but the size of that one intimidates me! This is a great list, Tammy. I am taking note of your faves.
So a bunch of these are on my list- but I have read Wanderers and Salvation Day! Enjoyed them both. I’m not sure off the top of my head which books I’d put on my best of lists. I’ll have to think on it.
I’m going to have to cut down my “ultimate” best of list eventually, and add in all the fantasy I read. At least we have another month to think about it:-)
Do You Dream of Terra-Two has been EVERYWHERE this #SciFiMonth, clearly I need to check it out! I’ve actually read surprisingly few of these – plenty of good reading in my future! Caitlin G. recently posted…Top Five Tuesday: Books Under 300 Pages on My TBR
So many good books to add to my TBR! I bought Aurora Rising and then … just … never read it? Because I’m a horrible person? I’m excited to pick it up still, though. Same with Wanderers. Soon as my hold comes through on that, it’s all mine!! Sammie @ The Writerly Way recently posted…10 Bookish Things I’m Thankful For
These all looks so good. The only one I have is Aurora Rising but I haven’t read it yet. UGH Stephanie @ Bookfever recently posted…Review: The Fowl Twins by Eoin Colfer
So far I’ve only read Recursion from your list but almost every other title is on my TBR. I’m really hoping to get at least All Systems Red and Aurora Rising read before the end of the year.
There are many more in this list I’d like to read, but so far I’ve read Sisters of the Vast Black and All Systems Red, and thoroughly enjoyed them both. Sisters was very different than I’d expected and packed so much story within it, as did All Systems Red. I love Murderbot!

A Boy and His Dog might be my favorite book of the year. I’m still putting my list together, but it’s definitely in the top three.
Ahhh Yes. Thank you for reminding me about Do You Dream of Terra-Two?
Ooh hope you read it!
Yikes, my recent lack of scifi awareness shines darkly here – 2 on my TBR, but not a 1 I’ve read. I’ll try better next year. 🙂
Hey, I know fantasy is more your jam! I personally need to step up my fantasy reading.
I LOVED Song for a New Day. So special. I can’t believe I still haven’t read The Wanderers, but the size of that one intimidates me! This is a great list, Tammy. I am taking note of your faves.
Thanks Jennifer! I wish more people would read A Song for a New Day:-)
Your posts make me greedy for ALL the books!
Ha ha, my evil plan is working…

You should check out Terra Two! I’m sad because it hasn’t really gotten much publicity, and it totally deserves to be on everyone’s best of list.

Wanderers was really good!! It’s long but it didn’t feel long, if that makes sense?
These all looks so good. The only one I have is Aurora Rising but I haven’t read it yet. UGH

Hey, I have SO many books on my shelves I haven’t read either!
So far I’ve only read Recursion from your list but almost every other title is on my TBR. I’m really hoping to get at least All Systems Red and Aurora Rising read before the end of the year.
Both are so good! Actually both of them are pretty quick reads too, and perfect for December:-)

Sisters was different from what I was expecting as well. There really were lots of great books this year:-)
I love Murderbot and Recursion! And A Boy and His Dog looks really good also!

A Boy and His Dog is the BEST:-)
I haven’t read any of the books you’ve mentioned but I want to read Aurora Rising so badly! Hopefully I can get around to it 😀
I hope so, Louise, it’s so much fun:-)
Great list! I’m starting Aurora Rising tonight! I’m excited 😀 I’m glad you liked it too

How Rory Thorne sounds epic just by that title haha.
That title is pretty epic:-)
I love seeing Ration on here. I still think about that book.

Fantastic list! I think A Boy and His Dog is going to be one of my top (if not my very top) books of the year, it was just that good. 🙂
