The Tarot Sequence Book Tag #ScionsofAtlantis #TeamDeath

If you read this blog at all, then you might know I’m not a fan of book tags AT ALL. (Although I’ve been known to do a few from time to time.) So what made me want to participate in THE TAROT SEQUENCE BOOK TAG? For a couple of reasons. A. I’m a huge fan of K.D. Edwards’ The Tarot Sequence and B. I’m part of K.D.’s Street Team to help promote the upcoming release of The Hanged Man. I’m part of #TeamDeath and couldn’t be more proud of my amazing and creative team members! Part of the Street Team event is a down-and-dirty friendly competition to see who can wrack up the most points by sharing things on social media—fan art, play lists, mood boards, you name it—and my fellow team mate Lisa from Way Too Fantasy created this awesome tag! Shout out to everyone else who helped with inspiration: keikii @ keikii eats books, Kelli @kelliramblesDianthaa @ Dianthaa Dabbles, and Matty @Mattyfp1.

(Also, please note that although K.D.’s books could have easily fit several of these slots, I’ve deliberately tried to find other examples.)

Even if you haven’t read the books, this is a super fun book tag! Here we go:

Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames. Obviously, I can’t spoil the ending if you haven’t read this book, but let’s just say I was GUTTED. One of my favorite characters dies at the end and I will never get over that.

Artemis by Andy Weir. The best character in this story—who would definitely be my snarky best friend—is Jazz, a brash smuggler who was a bit over-the-top, but she made me laugh out loud.

The Oracle Year by Charles Soule. I really struggled to find a book that deals with a prophecy, honestly I just don’t remember those kinds of details in the books I read. But I decided to use this book, about a man who wakes up one day and realizes he can predict the future. So he’s sort of a prophet!

How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse by K. Eason. I recently read and reviewed this and it has a really good found family, consisting of Rory, her body-maid Grytt, her guards Thorsdottir and Zhang, and Jaed, the son of an ambitious and evil man. They all work together and I just loved their relationships.

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. This book was bat-shit crazy in the first half—well, the whole book was actually bat-shit crazy—but the story doesn’t really get going until about the halfway point, when Muir introduces a locked room mystery to the plot.

A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos. This may be a beloved book in Dabos’ native country of France, but I couldn’t stand it. I hated all the characters except one: Ophelia’s scarf. Yes, that is correct. The scarf was the best character in this story!

The Girl with no Face by M.H. Boroson. Li-Lin is a Daoist priestess and her mentor is her father. The twist, though, is that when the story starts, Li-Lin’s father has disowned her. Boroson brilliantly turns this unfortunate relationship around when Li-Lin comes to the realization that the only person who can help her is the one person who wants nothing to do with her. The way he comes around is sweet and heartwarming.

The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell. There are several sinister secrets in this story, layers of them actually, and I couldn’t think of a better book for this prompt. Such a great book, you should read it if you haven’t yet!

And there you have it! I’m not tagging anyone in particular, but if you are so inclined, please feel free to join in!

  1. Aaaaah, Tammy I LOVE the graphics you made for this, they turned out amazing!!! <3 <3 <3
I have two of these books in my TBR, I need to get on them at some point. I also want to read that Rory Thorne book because it looks so fun. 🙂

  2. I’m screaming. I’m practically running around the coffee shop showing this to people. No words. Well: THANK YOU. (And damn good recommendations.)

  3. Oh this sounds like a wonderful book – the tag is brilliant and haven’t you done well??? And I’ve just scampered across to look at the Kindle edition – to find that it is WAY too expensive:((. What a shame! Oh well… maybe there will be a special offer at some stage.

  4. I’ve never read these books (though I wanted to), but I’m just here for all the inevitably great recommendations I always find on your site. xD My poor TBR. So happy to see Gideon the Ninth on here! I totally agree it fits that prompt (and I can’t way to read Harrow!!!).

I had forgotten a lot as well, and after reading The Hanged Man, I’m hoping K.D. will create a family tree at some point, a la Game of Thrones. It’s getting complicated!

      • I will ABSOLUTELY be creating a glossary on my website. Ben and Keith of Two Gay Geeks just talked to me about that yesterday, too. I need a glossary, and a list of dramatis personae!

        • Tammy

Yes! I’m so glad to hear that, Keith. And it’s only going to get more complex as you write more books and introduce more characters

  5. Sarah

I haven’t read most of these- but I’m definitely adding The Silent Companion! And this is a really fun tag- you guys did a great job putting it all together!

Thanks Sarah! And oh you must read The Silent Companions! I need to catch up with her other books, she’s amazing.
