When K.D. Edwards asked me if I’d like to post the first chapter of his upcoming release The Hanged Man (sequel to last year’s brilliant The Last Sun), my immediate answer was YES I WOULD JUST TELL ME WHEN. Well, today is the day, and if you’ve come to this post then I hope you enjoy this tantalizing taste of K.D.’s unique fantasy world, which uses Tarot cards as a jumping off point. I’ve already had the pleasure of reading The Hanged Man, and I can tell you that it’s a worthy sequel, building on the events of the first book and delving even deeper into the lives of K.D.’s amazing characters. And even though the book won’t be out for another two months, you people are lucky enough to read this chapter way before release day! Here’s what the book is about:
The Hanged Man by K.D. Edwards
Book #2 of The Tarot Sequence
Published by Pyr Books on December 17 2019
The last member of a murdered House tries to protect his ward from forced marriage to a monster while uncovering clues to his own past.
The Tarot Sequence imagines a modern-day Atlantis off the coast of Massachusetts, governed by powerful Courts based on the traditional Tarot deck.
Rune Saint John, last child of the fallen Sun Throne, is backed into a fight of high court magic and political appetites in a desperate bid to protect his ward, Max, from a forced marital alliance with the Hanged Man.
Rune’s resistance will take him to the island’s dankest corners, including a red light district made of moored ghost ships; a surreal skyscraper farm; and the floor of the ruling Convocation, where a gathering of Arcana will change Rune’s life forever.
In conjunction with this post, K.D. has just made a big announcement (see below), and he’s recorded a pod cast on The Two Gay Geeks‘ website to talk about his exciting news (see link after the excerpt to go straight to the podcast).
I couldn’t be more excited for this news! I think these books are really well suited for TV, and I can’t wait to see this unfold:-D
But first, please enjoy this exciting opening chapter (and even if you haven’t read The Last Sun, I’m betting this will convince you to read it. And no spoilers for the first book!) And if you’re a new reader, this is a great introduction to two of the main characters, Rune and Brand. Their relationship is, well, special…

K.D. is represented by Sara Megibow at kt literary, and Kim Yau at Paradigm for media rights.
I was BLESSED enough to get an arc of Hanged Man, and I’m still screaming about it. IT’S SO GOOD. HOW CAN ANY BOOK BE THIS GOOD???
Also I might have freaked out a tiny tiny bit about the adaption, and went and made a fancast. BECAUSE REASONS. https://everybookadoorway.com/?p=729

I’m going to have to come back and read the chapter, but both of these look amazing. I haven’t read The Last Sun yet.
You can still read the first chapter of this book, it will give you a flavor of what the story is like:-)
Oh yeah- I figured it wouldn’t be too spoilery, I just didn’t have time to read it this morning! I’m going to try and get to it this weekend. I’ll let you know what I think!
Cool, it’s pretty funny but also scary…
Tammy, thank you so much for posting this!!! — KD
