The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” – A cover featuring a school.
So I swore I was going to try to find something other than Harry Potter for this prompt, but I’ve caved and chosen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, simply because I couldn’t think of anything else. I found other books that take place in school settings, but the trick was finding a book with a school on the cover. Also, this series is perfect for the theme this week, and I chose the last book because that’s where Hogwarts is destroyed:-D Take a look at some of the covers I found:
U.S. Scholastic edition 2007 | Ukrainian edition 2007
Australian edition 2015 | U.S. 20th Anniversary edition 2018
Spanish edition 2015 | Indonesian edition 2018
Czech edition 2018 | Dutch edition 2013
This one is tough! As you can imagine, there are a lot of covers to choose from. I really love the Australian, Indonesian and the 20th Anniversary editions, but ultimately I think it’s hard to beat the Ukrainian edition, it’s simply stunning:
I think my favorite is the Australian edition. Looks almost like a horror novel!
Right? That snake is right up in your face:-)
I’ve never seen the australian 2005 one! It doesn’t look like HP, but it looks badass
Yeah, I don’t think if I’d seen it out of context I would guess “Harry Potter.”
Great book choice and I’m with you on that cover. It’s so colorful and packed with action!

I think it really captures the characters personalities as well.
My pick is the Australian, I love that simple black and white!

Yes, it’s striking!
They are all cool and I like the one you did and the Australian version the best. 🙂
The Australian is a runner up for me, I love it:-)
I’ve never seen the Ukrainian one before! But I agree it is really stunning <3 Its easily my favorite

Me either, I never would have seen it if I hadn’t been looking for other covers:-)
That hissing snake in the 2015 Australian edition is very lifelike! And scary…
🙂
Ha ha, it is scary. I really like the artistic style as well.
I think this choice is perfect for this week’s theme. 🙂 I really like a lot of these, especially the Australian and Indonesian editions. That Ukrainian one really is stunning, and I’m impressed by how much detail they fit into it!

There’s a ton of detail, yet it doesn’t feel overdone, right?
I love your choice – of book and cover and I also like the Scholastic cover.
Lynn 😀
I love that one too. It’s hard to choose;-)
Great choice of book, Tammy – I’m glad I’m not the only one who found this week’s theme HARD! Yep – it has to be the Ukranian cover which is awesome. That Australian cover is terrifying! Happy Holidays!
The Australian cover is pretty scary, now that I think about it!
I really like the Ukrainian edition too! Though my favourite cover is the Canadian edition 🙂
I’ll have to look the Canadian edition up:-)
That Ukranian cover is awesome! How have I missed that!
It’s the first time I’ve seen it as well. It’s really stunning!
This is definitely a hard one, Tammy! I think I like your choice best, but I could easily go with any of them.
I agree, Harry Potter gets the best covers:-)
That Ukrainian edition is really cool, and may be my favorite too! A lot of these are so awesome. The US 20th Anniversary is great too!

I do love all the 20th anniversary covers:-)
Oh, god… that first snakey one is terrifying! :/
Ha ha, I know! That snake just takes up the whole cover:-)
Oh, I don’t thing I’ve ever seen that one! I like it, it’s very eye catching.
Harry Potter gets the best covers, IMO:-)
Love all of these! The first U.S. one is my sentimental favorite, just because it’s the one I own, but I really love your pick too. Everything about it is just perfect! Now I want to see what all of the Ukranian covers for this series look like.

Me too! Maybe the other Ukranian covers are also on Goodreads, I’m very curious:-)
Oh great choice, I never even thought of this one, which seems obvious. I love the cover you went with, it’s such a good one. I love the poses and the colors!
I really thought everyone would pick Harry Potter, so that’s why I was trying to choose something else, lol.
I love how you used such a happy emoticon when talking about Hogwarts being destroyed lol. Gosh, there are so many editions of HP that I still haven’t seen them all, and wow that Ukranian one is awesome!
