Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
I just discovered Sarah Gailey’s next book in the Tor catalog and wow, it sounds really good!
Ivy Gamble has never wanted to be magic. She is perfectly happy with her life lifeβshe has an almost-sustainable career as a private investigator, and an empty apartment, and a slight drinking problem. It’s a great life and she doesn’t wish she was like her estranged sister, the magically gifted professor Tabitha.
But when Ivy is hired to investigate the gruesome murder of a faculty member at Tabithaβs private academy, the stalwart detective starts to lose herself in the case, the life she could have had, and the answer to the mystery that seems just out of her reach.
Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey. Releases in June 2019 from Tor Books. I really loved Gailey’s novella River of Teeth, and I believe this is her first full length novel. This punchy cover design grabbed my attention, and the magical mystery storyline sounds like something I’d love. Can’t wait!
This sounds exciting, and kind of the exact opposite of River of Teeth. Thanks for sharing it – onto the wishlist it goes!
It sounds very different, I agree. I’m curious to see what else she can do:-)
Oh my god, this sounds like a pretty fun and great read. I’ll have to add it to my TBR!
I can’t wait:-)
Love a genre blend, especially mystery plus anything else. Looks good!
I agree, this mash up could be really good:-)
YES! I loved the hippo books, so it almost doesn’t matter to me what she writes about next… I’ll read it!
That was my thought too, I’m so curious to read more of her work:-)
I will ABSOLUTELY be reading this one! I can’t wait. π

Seriously, I wish it weren’t so far away!
Ouuu!! This sounds like a lot of fun π
I agree, and I’m ready for some fun, lol:-)
That cover is mesmerizing! I love books like this one. Sounds like it is going to be an interesting mystery. π
It sounds different, right? And yes, that cover!
This sounds so good! And that gorgeous cover…just WOW!
I’m in love with the cover, it’s so unusual for a fantasy novel:-)
Ivy intrigues me and I like stories with a less than perfect character. Would love to read it too!

Yes, me too, flawed characters are the best!
It makes them genuine and the story realistic.
That is a unique cover! And I love that line “almost-sustainable career” haha- this sounds like it could be fun and quirky!
The cover is definitely on the quirky side, I’m hoping the story has the same vibe:-)
I wasn’t quite sold on River of Teeth, despite the cool premise – but a different change of pace like this could be promising!
It sounds really different, I’m very curious:-)
The cover definitely caught my eye when I first saw it! I still have to read her hippo books but this sounds like a lot fun! π
Yes, that cover!
I love the sound of this one. I haven’t read the author yet so this could be the perfect starting point.

This story seems like it might be better for a wider audience than her novellas.
Adding this to my tbr now! π
Yay!
I loved American Hippo, so I’d love to try another Sarah Gailey book!
Me too, it was so unusual, I’m curious to see what else she comes up with:-)
the cover is indeed appealing and “slight drinking problem” is always a good trait for a good flawed character π Hope you love it Tammy! π
