Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
I just saw this cover reveal on Twitter, and I had never heard of this book before, but wow am I excited! (This is for Barb!)
When a beloved family dog is stolen, one teen sets out on a life-changing journey through the ruins of our world to bring her back in this fiercely compelling tale of survival, courage, and hope perfect for readers of Station Eleven and The Girl With All the Gifts.
My name’s Griz. I’ve never been to school, I’ve never had friends, and in my whole life I’ve not met enough people to play a game of football.
My parents told me how crowded the world used to be, but we were never lonely on our remote island. We had each other, and our dogs.
Then the thief came.
There may be no law left except what you make of it. But if you steal my dog, you can at least expect me to come after you.
Because if we aren’t loyal to the things we love, what’s the point?
A BOY AND HIS DOG AT THE END OF THE WORLD is coming April 2019, and it’s the most powerful story you’ll read next year. Reminiscent of THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS and STATION ELEVEN, Griz’s tale mixes sadness and hope in one unforgettable character’s quest amid the remnants of our fragile civilization.
A Boy and his Dog at the End of the World by C.A. Fletcher. Releases in April 2019 from Orbit Books. Sorry about all the Orbit Books focus lately, it seems like a lot of my recent Waiting on Wednesday posts have been from Orbit. But what can I say? They’ve got a great lineup coming out next year, and their covers are killing it! Of course, there is a small part of me that is worrying about what happens to the dog in this story, but I’m hoping this all turns out OK for her.
This does sound fabulous. I love the setting and the storyline and like you, I’m already anxious for the dog, lol.
Let’s all think good thoughts and hopefully the dog will be OK:-)
A dog book I haven’t discovered! Thanks so much for featuring this one and it’s going on my wishlist straight away. Loving the cover as well!
I know, I’m surprised I found it first, lol! Hopefully the dog survives!
Looks good. If it’s as good as The Girl With All the Gifts then I’m pretty sure I’ll love it. Added to my list!
Me too! I’ll read anything that uses that comparison:-)
Oh my gosh, this is actually one of my worst fears that someone will steal my dog because I’ve been hearing a lot of this going on this summer and it just makes me sad and angry. But it does sound like a good read. I really hope the dog will be okay and that they’ll be reunited.
Oh no, that would be awful:-( I worry about one of my dogs being stolen, but the other one doesn’t like people and barks a lot so he’d probably scare thieves away:-)
hahaha I always worry about the animals in stories too. Hopefully, it’s a happy ending. 🙂

I’m going to be optimistic with this one:-)
This sounds great, but I can’t handle dogs in books. If there’s a hint of something bad happening to the dog I’ll lose it haha.
I’m the same way, I love dogs so much, but I’m usually willing to take a chance. Fingers crossed!
Looking forward to your review!
I like the sound of this one. It reminds me a bit of The Last Dog on Earth which I loved… I look forward to hearing what you make of this.
I haven’t read that, but now I’m curious!
I can see how Orbit would put out a lot of books you would enjoy…lol. 🙂
They are one of my favorite publishers, so I guess I’m not surprised:-)
‘What happens to the dog’ was my first thought because its such a prominent part of the book! :O I love the sound of this one though, really intriguing summary! I’m telling myself he finds the dog and everything is fine because this sounds like one I might want to check out, also, haha. Great choice!

Yes, I’m telling myself that too! I will really be crushed if there isn’t a happily ever after for the dog.
Awesome, indeed. Me wants!
Yes, it really sounds fantastic, right?
Wow this does sound good and they don’t dare hurt the dog. Riiiiight??? Seriously though, yeah great pick. This looks like a good one.,

You know, I feel like the cover is very optimistic, so I have good thoughts about the dog:-)
I hadn’t heard of this one either! And is it weird that I was only mildly curious until I read the comparison to Girl with All the Gifts, and now I really want to read it? Those darn “perfect for fans of ___” blurbs, I’m a sucker for them 😀

Me too, and anytime The Girl with All the Gifts is mentioned (which seems like all the time!), I can’t help but add it to the list:-)
This sounds …. kind of ominous. But I must admit, I like Griz!
Ha ha, yes but the cover doesn’t say “ominous” right?
I’m with Mogsy – and I have to have this one!
Lynn 😀
Yes, and for the cover alone is enough to make me want it:-)
It’s soooo going to be emotional. I can already tell! 😛 And hell yes for Orbit books! They’re the best! <3
This sounds sooo good! A boy after my own heart. I hope it is as good as it sounds. And that cover! Thank you for sharing. I hope you have a great week!
