Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
I just saw this cover reveal, and since I was a huge fan of Anders’ All the Birds in the Sky, I’m really looking forward to her next book:
“If you control our sleep, then you can own our dreams…And from there, it’s easy to control our entire lives.”
From the brilliant mind of Charlie Jane Anders (“A master absurdist”—New York Times; “Virtuoso”—NPR) comes a new novel of Kafkaesque futurism. Set on a planet that has fully definitive, never-changing zones of day and night, with ensuing extreme climates of endless, frigid darkness and blinding, relentless light, humankind has somehow continued apace—though the perils outside the built cities are rife with danger as much as the streets below.
But in a world where time means only what the ruling government proclaims, and the levels of light available are artificially imposed to great consequence, lost souls and disappeared bodies are shadow-bound and savage, and as common as grains of sand. And one such pariah, sacrificed to the night, but borne up by time and a mysterious bond with an enigmatic beast, will rise to take on the entire planet–before it can crumble beneath the weight of human existence.
The City in the Middle of the Night by Charlie Jane Anders. Releases in February 2019 from Tor Books. I honestly don’t even care what this is about, I just know I need another Charlie Jane Anders book in my life! But the story does sound really good.
I haven’t read any Charlie Jane Anders yet, this looks interesting! I love the cover too. 🙂
She’s really good and deserves more attention. Hopefully this book will make that happen:-)
Tor releases the best books. Seriously, they are one of my favorite authors. This sounds VERY interesting and I have to admit I’m intrigued. Thanks for sharing!
Yep, I love Tor. They are publish consistently good books, and I’m hoping this will be another one!
I’ve not read this author before but this sounds like something I would enjoy so I’ll watch out for it.
Lynn 😀
I think you’d like her, she’s on the quirky side:-)
This sounds great and it has a beautiful cover! I will definitely be checking this out when it releases.
At first I wasn’t sure about the cover, but it really has a lot of cool details.
That cover alone is enough to make me want to read it, but the title of the book is what really drew me in. It is all so intriguing.
I love the title, all her books seem to have very long titles, lol.
Oooh where has this book been hiding!? This sounds great, and I’ve wanted to read something by Charlie Jane Anders sometime! Nice pick 🙂
She’s fantastic, I hope you get the chance to read this!
Something tells me after All The Birds in the Sky that Anders’ style will not be for me, but I’m glad you have more to look forward to!
Yeah, she’s definitely on the quirky side, I can see how you might not like her style.
This author is new to me but that synopsis is definitely an attention getter!
She isn’t that well known, but she should be. I just love her writing.
I echo the commenter up there who said TOR puts out good stuff. *nods* I haven’t read Anders’ first book but I wanted to, and this one sounds pretty awesome too. Will definitely be keeping an eye on reviews for this!

I must admit as epic as this sounds, I don’t quite know what this is about? *scratches head*
Ha ha, yes sounds like a typical Charlie Jane Anders plot! I love her books but they tend to go off the rails plot wise. In other words, hard to describe but still engaging
All the Birds in the Sky is still gathering dust on my TBR but I sure added this one to join it. This sounds GOOD.

Ooo… she wrote All the Birds in the Sky – which I LOVED. Thank you for the heads-up:) I’ll keep an eye out for this one, Tammy. Because I’d love to read this one, too!
I’m so glad you also loved All the Birds, such a quirky but heartwarming book:-)
The premise sounds phenomenal! I’d totally give this one a shot! 😀
