Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Well, it’s been a whole month since my last Over-Booked, and I’m happy to say that I’ve been pretty good about not overdoing it in the ARC request department! But I do have some awesome looking new books, take a look:
Physical books for review:
I was really excited to get a finished copy of Head On by John Scalzi, thanks to Tor Books! I really enjoyed Lock In and I hope to get to this soon, since it just came out this past week.
Big thanks to Pushkin Press for sending a copy of The Peace Machine by Özgür Mumcu from across the pond:-) Mumcu is a Turkish writer and this book is the translated English edition. I’ve agreed to do a Q&A with the author next month, which should be interesting!
A surprise from Pyr Books, next up is Verdict on Crimson Fields by M.C. Planck. This is book #4 in Planck’s World of Prime series, which unfortunately I am not reading.
Big thanks to Pyr again for the next two books: I’m really looking forward to Blood Orbit by K.R. Richardson, a sci-fi/thriller—one of my favorite genres these days! Look for my guest post with the author next month, as well as a giveaway of the book.
And another book I’ve been hearing great things about is The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards. I’ve already had a few Twitter exchanges with the author and he’s very nice. I can’t wait to dive into this!
Finally, a finished copy of The Night Dahlia by R.S. Belcher, which I LOVED. I wasn’t expecting it, which makes it extra special. Big thanks to Tor!
Digital books for review:
I couldn’t be more excited to read my first Hunter Shea book, Jurassic, Florida, after hearing so many awesome things about him from my blogger buddies Barb and Stormi! The cover is amazing and this looks like a bunch of fun:-)
This Splintered Silence by Kayla Olson was already on my TBR when it popped up on Edelweiss, so I decided, why not? I’m sorry that I missed Olson’s last book The Sandcastle Empire, and I’m looking forward to this sci-fi thriller:-)
Awakened by James S. Murray and Darren Wearmouth. Darren actually contacted me and asked if I’d like a copy, which is a no-brainer because I featured this book on a recent Waiting on Wednesday. It’s horror, and I really need more horror right now, so I’m excited for this.
Drop by Drop by Morgan Llywelyn is a highly anticipated science fiction novel from Tor. Llywelyn is practically a national treasure, I used to read her books when I was very young, so I’m curious to see what she’s writing these days.
Planetside by Michael Mammay sounds really good, and let’s hear it for ANOTHER sci-fi thriller! Plus it already has a bunch of five-star ratings on Goodreads, so I’m ready!
I’m thrilled to have a copy of Apex Books’ upcoming Aetherchrist by Kirk Jones. This is seriously a cool cover and I can’t wait to read it. Apex has been killing it with their new releases lately!
Purchased:
And speaking of Apex, since my last book haul post, I’ve received both the March and April editions of Apex Magazine, aren’t they lovely? One of these days I plan to review them. If you love quirky short speculative fiction, then you really should subscribe to this monthly ‘zine. It’s only about $10 a month, so check it out here if you can swing it, and support a really top-notch small press!
I am always amazed by the quantity and quality of the books you get (and review), Tammy. A real treat for me, especially because, in the last year or so, my own writing (non-fiction, mainly) led me to read science/industry reports and space news, and they don’t make for good review materials. I hope I get back on track once I’m done writing 😀
Sounds like your writing is pretty important, though:-) I hope you get the chance to get back to fiction eventually!
I got an ARC of Head On from NetGalley and I am really looking forward to it. 🙂
Happy reading!

Oh cool, I hope we both love it:-)
Planetside sounds like the kind of book I enjoy, a mystery and a dark cover-up in space.
This goes straight into my “wanted” list! 🙂

I agree, the combo of mystery and space always gets me:-)
The Last Sun does sound really good and I want to read it too.
I hope we both love it:-)
These all look so good! I hope you enjoy The Last Sun! 🙂 Oh, and everything about Jurassic, Florida, from the blurb to the cover, sounds kind of amazing.
Jurassic Florida definitely grabs your attention with that cover for sure:-)
Oh my gosh Jurassic Florida- I NEED that! Planetside is one I’m gonna need to take a look at too 🙂

I can totally see Jurassic Florida being your kind of book:-)
Planetside… The Last Sun… Blood Orbit… they all look MARVELLOUS and I’ve just requested Drop by Drop – thank you for that! And finished reading Head On, which I thoroughly enjoyed and I’m looking forward to hearing what you think:)).
I’m excited to read your review of Head On! I hope to start it in a week or so, after a couple of other review obligations.
That’s such a fabulous haul! I’m liking every one. I pre-ordered Hunter’s book. I always do. Love his books!

I do like the cover of The Peace Machine as well:-) Thanks for visiting, Alyssa!
Oh how wonderful that you got a surprise finished copy even! I hope you enjoy all these books 🙂 The Peace Machine looks interesting!

I’m so curious about the Peace Machines, this is probably the first book by a Turkish author I’ve read:-)
Apex seems to be having a really good year, and for that reason I am looking forward to Aetherchrist to see what it has in store for us. And I finished Head On a couple days ago, I think you’ll love it! It was just one of those fun books you can’t put down, you know? It felt like it went really fast. And LOL, Jurassic Florida caught my eye too! It looks insane! But I’m really trying hard not to be tempted by NetGalley offerings until I clear off a few more books from the tbr.

I like the look of Jurassic Florida – that could be seriously fun. Look forward to your thoughts on that. I have a copy of The Last Sun which I’m looking forward to. Your list seems very sci-fi centric this time round. Hope you love them all.
Lynn 😀
oh that’s great, they look good! happy reading!
Drop by Drop sounds amazing but I was disappointed by the first (and last to this day) book I read by Llewelyn. It was her last release I believe and eventhough it wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t anything special… I will still keep an eye out for reviews.
I really hope you like the Hunter Shea book. I kind of compare them to creature features but on the most part, they are a lot of fun to read. You got some great books this week but then you always do. I managed to catch up on some reading and Mr. Barb and I did binge Lost in Space on Netflix – so good!

I look forward to your thoughts on the Hunter Shea book. I’m looking forward to reading Aetherchrist soon.
I got a copy of Awakened too and I’m SO excited for it! It sounds fantastic. Planetside sounds pretty awesome too. So does Aetherchrist! Happy reading!! 🙂
