Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
I just spotted this cover a few days ago on Twitter, and I knew I had to feature this book this week. Take a look:
Raised in a small village surrounded by vast forests, Liba and Laya have lived a peaceful sheltered life – even if they’ve heard of troubling times for Jews elsewhere. When their parents travel to visit their dying grandfather, the sisters are left behind in their home in the woods.
But before they leave, Liba discovers the secret that their Tati can transform into a bear, and their Mami into a swan. Perhaps, Liba realizes, the old fairy tales are true. She must guard this secret carefully, even from her beloved sister.
Soon a troupe of mysterious men appear in town and Laya falls under their spell-despite their mother’s warning to be wary of strangers. And these are not the only dangers lurking in the woods…
The sisters will need each other if they are to become the women they need to be – and save their people from the dark forces that draw closer.
The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner. Releases in September 2018 from Redhook. This cover is going to end up being one of my favorites this year, isn’t it gorgeous? This book is being marketed to readers who loved Uprooted and The Bear and the Nightingale, and I really can’t wait. It sounds wonderful!
Oh my, that is beautiful — and the blurb sounds well, magical. The sisters bond sounds like it’s going to make for a good read!
I agree, this has quite a few elements that seem like they will make a great story: sisters, the woods, and even the historical setting.
And on to the wishlist it goes! What a gorgeous cover and I love the sounds of it. So magical, so alluring. But I wonder, am I the only one getting a Golden Compass vibe? (maybe it’s because the edition I want reminds me of this cover – who knows). Great choice once again!

I think I know which version of The Golden Compass you’re talking about, and yes, I can see that too:-)
That is a beautiful cover! I can see why it would be a favorite for the year. The story sounds intriguing as well. Great pick! You can see what I picked this week in the link below!

Yes, I hope the story is just as wonderful as the cover:-)
Well, I haven’t read either of those comparison books but they’re both on my TBR! And that cover really is all sorts of gorgeous. 🙂

I’ve read Uprooted but just haven’t found time for The Bear and the Nightingale, unfortunately. Strangely I want to read The Bear.. even more now:-)
I saw this on twitter as well and I can’t wait! I have a weakness for stories about shapeshifters. And that cover…I just want to dissolve into it, it’s so gorgeous.
The cover really is stunning, I can’t wait:-)
That is a gorgeous cover and the story sounds lovely too.
The cover just grabbed me. I know there are a lot of covers out there with a similar feel, but this one stands out.
It does sound like a wonderful book. I do love the cover. I hope you get a chance to read this one as I know I would like too! Great pick!

I know, I do love forest settings, they definitely add to the fairy tale feel:-)
Well, one cannot go wrong with shapeshifters, can they? 🙂
This sounds like the kind of book one enjoys getting lost in…

It does sound very magical, I love the fairy tale feel to the blurb:-)
This was one of several books from Redhook that caught my eye! They’re mostly a suspense and mystery publisher, so I’m hoping for a good dose of that mixed in with the fantasy 😀

I was surprised to see the publisher, I literally only think of them as mystery/thriller. Should be interesting!
I love the sound of this one and the cover is gorgeous. I’m really intrigued to see how the historical elements are combined.
Lynn 😀
What an amazing cover! It reminds me of the cover of The Hazel Wood – I adore covers with such intricate designs. I hope you love this book, Tammy!
Have a fabulous day. =)
