Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
Boy, Scalzi is one busy writer! I feel like I just featured another of his upcoming books on a Waiting on Wednesday post, and here we are again! I had fun with the first book in this series, The Collapsing Empire, so I was excited to see the cover this past week for book #2 in the series:
The Interdependency, humanity’s interstellar empire, is on the verge of collapse. The Flow, the extra-dimensional conduit that makes travel between the stars possible, is disappearing, leaving entire star systems stranded. When it goes, human civilization may go with it—unless desperate measures can be taken.
Emperox Grayland II, the leader of the Interdependency, is ready to take those measures to help ensure the survival of billions. But nothing is ever that easy. Arrayed before her are those who believe the collapse of the Flow is a myth—or at the very least, an opportunity that can allow them to ascend to power.
While Grayland prepares for disaster, others are preparing for a civil war, a war that will take place in the halls of power, the markets of business and the altars of worship as much as it will take place between spaceships and battlefields. The Emperox and her allies are smart and resourceful, but then so are her enemies. Nothing about this power struggle will be simple or easy… and all of humanity will be caught in its widening gyre.
The Consuming Fire (The Interdependency #2) by John Scalzi. Releases in October 2018 from Tor Books. I feel like it’s been forever since I read The Collapsing Empire, I’m going to have to do a refresh before October for sure!
I’ve not read any Scalzi but have Red Shirts and Fuzzy Nation waiting for me on my shelves. He has been a writing machine lately. I saw someplace that they are making a series from the Old Man’s War books – maybe for Amazon?

Redshirts is one I think I’ll love, since it’s a spoof on Star Trek. One of these days… I did hear something about the Old Man’s War series but I’d have to Google it. I want to read the book before I watch it though!
This sounds so good! I’ll definitely add the series to my list 😀 How did you find the first book?

I really enjoyed the first book! Definitely enough to continue the series.
I hate to say it, but despite having a few titles on my shelf, I’ve yet to give Scalzi a read. Maybe I’ll get caught up on this.
It’s hard to get to everything, that’s for sure! I really want to go back and try his Old Man’s War series and Redshirts. I hear those are fantastic:-)
The only Scalzi novel I read is Locked In (which I loved), so I really have no idea why I haven’t read anything else by him :/
I actually enjoyed Lock In more than this series, but hey there’s a sequel to that coming out too!
Much as I enjoyed The Collapsing Empire, still it felt like an introduction to the main story, so I can’t wait to get my hands on this second book and finally see where the story is headed 🙂

It did sort of feel that way, you’re right. Hopefully this won’t feel like a “middle” book:-)
I liked the first one a lot, and it was my first Scalzi. Kiva LAgos was awesome lol. I’m definitely looking forward to this one, but yeah I may have to re- read before it comes!

I loved Kiva too! I’m so curious to see where he’s taking the story:-)
OOh I’ll have to check out the first one! I haven’t heard of it before.
Here’s our WOW: http://jennreneeread.blogspot.com/2018/02/waiting-on-wednesday-this-tiny-perfect.html
It’s a fun series, I recommend it!

He’s really good, and I love his humor:-)
This was almost going to be my WoW pick this week but I had a feeling you might choose it so I didn’t want to double up! But yes, looking forward to this one too!

Oh no now we’re second guessing each other, lol! I’ve done the same with you a couple of times, I’m sure:-)
New to me (surprise surprise) but actually I have definitely heard of this author! I feel like the publisher sent me a review copy of a previous book in the past. Or I could be thinking of another author, LOL. Soooo many books, so little time. I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it!
Have a great week, Tammy. =)

Ha ha, I know, so many books! It’s hard to keep them straight sometimes:-) Thanks for stopping by, Alyssa!
I’m looking forward to this one too. I really enjoyed the first. Can’t wait.
Lynn 😀
It’s hard to go wrong with Scalzi:-)
Ohhh. Maybe this series should be my next Scalzi?
Yes, it’s pretty good! I also love Lock In, which has a book #2 coming out this year as well.
I read Lock In, and was really disappointed. I don’t think it was a bad book, but based on the synopsis and premise, I expected more…
Oooh, glad to hear about this one! I got Collapsing Empire on audible recently so now I know I need to read that soon. 🙂

I think it would be really good on audio, plus it’s got a lot of humor:-)
I loved The Collapsing Empire, so I need to keep an eye out for this one, too. Many thanks for the reminder that this is coming out this year, Tammy:)
I think it was pushed from the original pub date so I’m definitely ready for it:-)
I am still smarting from that time I got denied for The Collapsing Empire by like two publishers :DD
BTW, I was going to ask you – which publishers do you more or less monitor on NetGalley? Cause I’ve decided to just keep a Tor tab always open on my phone so I could check for new releases xD but I know it’s more than just Tor. What are some of the awesome ones that you get books from on NetGalley? Cause I’d love more books like the ones I see on your blog, but I never seem to catch them before it’s too late xD
