Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
I had a great time featuring all science fiction books last month, but now we’re back to our regular scheduled programming:-) This book sounds TERRIFYING but I really want to read it:
The Bram Stoker Award-winning author of A Head Full of Ghostsadds an inventive twist to the home invasion horror story in a heart-palpitating novel of psychological suspense that recalls Stephen King’s Misery, Ruth Ware’s In a Dark, Dark Wood, and Jack Ketchum’s cult hit The Girl Next Door
Seven-year-old Wen and her parents, Eric and Andrew, are vacationing at a remote cabin on a quiet New Hampshire lake. Their closest neighbors are more than two miles in either direction along a rutted dirt road.
One afternoon, as Wen catches grasshoppers in the front yard, a stranger unexpectedly appears in the driveway. Leonard is the largest man Wen has ever seen but he is young, friendly, and he wins her over almost instantly. Leonard and Wen talk and play until Leonard abruptly apologizes and tells Wen, None of what’s going to happen is your fault. Three more strangers then arrive at the cabin carrying unidentifiable, menacing objects. As Wen sprints inside to warn her parents, Leonard calls out: Your dads won’t want to let us in, Wen. But they have to. We need your help to save the world.
Thus begins an unbearably tense, gripping tale of paranoia, sacrifice, apocalypse, and survival that escalates to a shattering conclusion, one in which the fate of a loving family and quite possibly all of humanity are entwined. The Cabin at the End of the World is a masterpiece of terror and suspense from the fantastically fertile imagination of Paul Tremblay.
The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay. Releases in June 2018 from William Morrow. I have to admit I wasn’t blown away by Tremblay’s last book, Devil’s Rock, but I’ve heard amazing things about A Head Full of Ghosts (which I have yet to read). So I’m giving him another chance, of course! This sounds creepy, and it’s unclear whether there are any speculative elements or not, but I’m hoping there are.
I still need to read a book by this author and you are right, this does sound quite scary. Gotta get it!

I did read his debut (but wasn’t blown away lol) so I skipped Devil’s Rock… this one does sound good though. I’m going to wait for some reviews probably. There just isn’t enough horror these days it seems so I will likely read it anyways. haha

Oh my! This sounds like the kind of book you can read only by keeping an oxygen bottle nearby! 🙂

With a title like that, I am expecting a very good horror story.

Disappearance at Devil’s Rock was so disappointing after the awesome sauce that was Head Full of Ghosts. Let’s hope we get the groove back with this one 🙂

Hmmmmmmm, psychological suspense… not something I read often but theoretically I love a good psychological thriller. 😀 I hope you enjoy this book when you get the chance to read it!
Have a fantastic week, Tammy. =)

I’ve heard of A Head Full of Ghosts too! I haven’t read anything by this author but I am curious about that title in particular. The Cabin at the End of the World sounds spooky too though. 😀
