Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Just a couple of digital galleys this week, and some ARCs I’m really looking forward to. Also, I FINALLY got a Kickstarter reward for a book that I backed maybe two-three years ago? I’m not kidding, it took FOREVER to get. Now granted, it’s a gorgeous book so I guess it was worth the wait? Here’s what I added to my shelves this week:
Physical copies:
Sooo excited to get An Unkindness of Magicians in the mail the other day! It’s one of my most anticipated releases this year, after loving Howard’s Roses and Rot last year. Huge thanks to Saga Press!
And two awesome surprises from publishers whose books I reviewed recently: finished copies of The Truants by Lee Markham and The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter by Theodora Goss. Thanks to Overlook Press and Saga Press! And vampire lovers take note: I’ll be giving away THREE copies of The Truants very soon, so stay tuned!
Stepping away from my normal SFF reads, I’m looking forward to this domestic thriller from Graydon House, Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda.
And big thanks to Pyr for this finished copy of A Kiss Before Doomsday by Laurence MacNaughton. I’m more determined than ever to start this series, I hear it’s wonderful!
And a Kickstarter that I backed YEARS ago finally showed up: Genius Loci, published by Ragnarok. I had tried several times to contact the publisher to no avail, so I basically figured I’d lost the $30 I pledged. (At some point you just have to let it go.) But it showed up last week! And I have to admit, it’s pretty spectacular—beautifully designed on heavy paper, and it’s full of cool looking stories.
Digital review copies:
SUPER excited to be approved for Andy Weir’s Artemis. Since The Martian became one of my favorite books of 2014, I’ve been dying to read Weir’s next book. Big thanks to Crown for the review copy. And if any publisher-savvy folks can explain why two different publishers are publishing hardcover editions of this book at the same time, but with slightly different covers, I’m dying to know. I also see that Del Rey is mentioned as a publisher on Goodreads. I must know, somebody please find out for me. (And I feel really lazy right now, lol)
The Sky is Yours by Chandler Klang Smith. I adore this cover, and if you click the link and read the description on Goodreads, I know you’re going to want to read this too. It sounds just crazy enough for my tastes! Big thanks to Hogarth for the review copy.
WHAT a marvellous book haul. I’m delighted that you finally got your Kickstarter goodie – it’s encouraging because unless folks honour their pledges, then the whole system will founder and I know it’s done a lot of good. An Unkindness of Magicians looks wonderful and as for Artemis – I know that envy is an ugly emotion, so I’m controlling myself… just! Hope you really enjoy reading these Tammy:))

If you get books from NetGalley, I think the UK edition of Artemis is up there!
I’m so looking forward to the Andy Weir book. It sounds so good
I know! I’m not sure I’ll be able to wait until November…
Nice haul once again, Tammy! I’m curious about Laurence MacNaughton’s series, too, especially because of its use of crystals and gemstones as a magic system. And oooooh ARTEMIS! When does that one come out again?
I haven’t bought any books lately, but I did recently rent two books from the library: Laura Esquivel’s LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE and Anna-Marie McLemore’s WHEN THE MOON WAS OURS. Both were good, especially McLemore’s. In fact, I regretted the fact that I had to return the book when I finished it!
I think Artemis is out in November, which seems far away but I know it will be here before you know it. I loved When the Moon Was Ours as well, her writing is so beautiful!
An Unkindness of Magicians is one of my most anticipated! I loved Roses and Rot.
I’m so excited to read her next book, I adored Roses and Rot too:-D
I got approved for Artemis too! I can’t wait to jump into it! 🙂
Yay, I hope we both love it!
I saw two versions of Artemis. One was US and one was international. Maybe that’s what you saw? I’ve been trying to resist requesting it, but I know I’m only a few days away from giving in and clicking that button. LOL.
Oh, maybe the Del Rey edition is international? Come on Jennifer, give in and request;-)
Even though The Martian did not agree with me (one of the very rare instances where the movie won over the book), I’m quite curious about Andy Weir’s new book, since it sounds closer to my own tastes, and I’m looking forward to it quite a bit 🙂

You’re right, it does sound very different from The Martian. I actually loved both the book and movie, I thought they did a really good job:-)
I am curious to see what you think of Best Day Ever and A Kiss Before Dooms Day, those both sound interesting. 🙂
I’m so curious about Best Day Ever, I’ll let you know!
Yay, I’m glad you got your copy of An Unkindness of Magicians! I’m also super excited to read Best Day Ever actually, even though it’s not SFF. I’ve heard books like this and Gone Girl being referred to as “Domestic Suspense”? Whatever it is, it’s a genre that’s hit or miss with me, but there’s something about this that’s pushing all my right buttons!

I once backed a Kickstarter years ago, and have given up any hope of ever getting the book- though I won’t lie, I am still salty about it 😉 I am glad you got yours though! The cover of An Unkindness of Magicians is SO pretty, I am definitely interested in that one. And wow, The Sky is Yours DOES sound good, I am adding that to my TBR! Hope you love these!!

Someday I’ll learn to stop looking at your hauls….nah! I spy some great looking books. I already have my ARC of The Sky is Yours so I can agree it does sound great. Hope you find some awesome reads in this bunch!
Wow, you got so many books this week! Lots of sci-fi! I’m glad you finally got the book from your Kickstarter backing. It is a gorgeous book, hopefully worth the wait. 😀 I hope you enjoy all of your new books!
Have a fantastic week, Tammy. =)
