The Friday Face-Off – Guitar

The Friday Face-Off is hosted by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme.

“You couldn’t not like someone who liked the guitar.”

I have to admit, this week was harder than I thought it would be. There are plenty of romance guitar-centric books, but they would feel completely out of place on this blog:-) Instead, I’ve decided to use the theme of “guitar” loosely, and so I chose The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I know, I know, Kvothe plays the lute, but hey, it’s in the same family as a guitar! Here is a sampling of covers that show Kvothe’s lute:

Czechoslovakian | Polish 2008

Portuguese 2009 | Serbian 2011

Georgian 2016 | Latvian 2013

The first one is actually the same cover as the original US hardcover, which is very hard to find these days, and Goodreads only had a teeny tiny jpeg that wasn’t working for me. And I happen to own the original US edition, which I’m pretty happy about! But I have to say my favorite goes to:

I love the romantic feeling of the artwork, and I also like the way Rothfuss’ name is spelled!

Which is your favorite?

Great choice of book, this is one of my favorites. It’s always fascinating to see how the same book is presented so differently in different countries. My favorite is the Czechoslovakian cover. I like the mystery it conveys.

I really like that one too, and you’re right, each country does something different, but you still get the sense of Rothfuss’ story.

I always love finding covers from other countries, they always do something unexpected!

  2. There are some wonderful cover choices for this book aren’t there. It’s difficult to actually pick one but I love your choice and always happy to see Rothfuss on any list.
