The Friday Face-Off is hosted by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. This is my first time participating! I thought I’d try something different, and since I LOVE book covers, what better chance to do some digging on the internet and find books that go with this week’s theme:
“It shuffles through the dry, dusty darkness.”
[A book featuring mummification]
I didn’t really want to go for the obvious, so I looked around and decided on Blood Lines by Tanya Huff (Book #3 in the Vicki Nelson series). Check out these covers:
2004 from Little, Brown Young Readers | 2010 French edition
2014 DAW US edition | 2009 Polish edition
1993 DAW US edition | 2010 Czech edition
It’s no contest for me, here’s my favorite:
I love the artwork, and it’s the best representation of a mummy.
Next week’s theme: “You couldn’t not like someone who liked the guitar.”
[A cover which features a guitar.]
Love your pick. Love mummies. Too bad I don’t have any book with mummies on the cover. This is a fun meme.

This is fun, a nice break from posting reviews:-)
Hands down, that’s my favorite as well. I also like the Polish version. Some of these covers seem pretty lame and especially in comparison. Mummies are everywhere with the movie coming out today. I think it looks pretty good even if I’m not a huge fan of Tom Cruise – except I do like him as Jack Reacher for some reason.

I’m curious to see the new movie too, although it the trailers make it seem too blockbustery and loud. You’ll probably see it before I do so I’ll wait for your opinion!
That mummy (the one you chose) is awesomely scary! I like the way the cloth stripes threaten to fall while still covering the body, and the hint of teeth in the skull… (((insert delighted shudder))) 😉

You’ve certainly started this meme in style – it’s a really strong choice, Tammy. I love Blood Lines – but then I think Tanya Huff is a really special author. And as for your favourite – oh yes, you’ve nailed it there, too. It’s a beautiful, clever cover with a lot going on – and that figure just begs you to read the book… Have a great week-end!

Oh yes – great choice of book and I couldn’t agree more with your choice – I love it.
Lynn 😀
And I haven’t heard of any of these, looks like I have some reading to do! First that comes to mind for me is that Goosebumps book… 🙂
Totally agree with your pick. That one perfectly captures the creepy menace of mummies.
Menacing, Yes! Good description. The artist really captured that:-)
Yay, welcome to Friday Face-Off. I actually bowed out of the topic this week because it was too hard, I couldn’t think of anything that I’ve read which would fit lol. Great job finding the perfect pick though, and I love your choice of winner!
Ummm, I’m supposed to read the book I pick? Oops. Well, after finding this book I definitely want to read it! My method was searching “books about mummies” on Goodreads. 🙂
Welcome to the Friday Face-Off! So glad you’re joining in 😀 I absolutely love your choice! It’s scarily stunning and really stands out from the alternatives. Great choice!
This was so much fun, I can’t believe I waited so long to join in!
Ooh, good pick Tammy! I can’t actually think of any books I’ve read that feature mummies, so my pick would be the obvious: The Mummy films.

I haven’t actually read this but oh well! I’ve read Tanya Huff before so I feel vindicated:-)
The Polish cover is amazing! Honestly, I’ve seen the original cover countless times and never realised that that black shape was supposed to be a mummy XD
