Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where each week bloggers can come up with their own top ten list based on a theme.
This week we’re listing our most anticipated spring reads! Since we’re already deep into March, I’ve decided to focus on books are going to be released in April and May. I have review copies for some of these, but not all.
April Releases
Brimstone by Cherie Priest. I’m thrilled to have a review copy of Priest’s next book. This looks very different from The Family Plot, it’s historical fantasy, but it sounds really good.
Ararat by Christopher Golden. Anything that gets compared to The Terror automatically goes on my list, can’t wait!
Waking Gods (Themis Files #2) by Sylvain Neuvel. I really enjoyed Sleeping Giants, although not every blogger I know did. But still, I’m hoping for some answers to some of the mysteries of the first book.
If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. This contemporary thriller isn’t my usual genre, but since I’ve heard this compared to The Secret History by Donna Tartt, how could I not be intrigued?
May Releases:
Black Mad Wheel by Josh Malerman. By the author of Bird Box (which I still need to read), this follow-up sounds pretty trippy.
The Only Child by Andrew Pyper. I was just approved for this on NetGalley, which I’m very thankful for. I’ve only read one book by Pyper but I loved it.
City of Miracles (The Divine Cities #3) by Robert Jackson Bennett. I can’t wait to see how this series wraps up, and I know this is going to be a hot book for May:-)
Borrowed Souls by Chelsea Mueller. I’m in the mood for some good urban fantasy, and I’m confident that this book will fit the bill:-D
The Boy on the Bridge by M.R. Carey. I believe this is set in the same world as The Girl with All the Gifts, but I’m not sure if it’s a sequel? Prequel? In any case, I’m very excited to read it.
Borne by Jeff VanderMeer. This looks strange and wonderful, just like all of VanderMeer’s work.
Thanks for this list – have just added some to my TBR 😀
I want to read Borrowed Souls and Brimstone actually made my list as well. I just popped over to Goodreads and read the synopsis for Borne and it sounded like all kinds of crazy – can’t wait to see your review (because then I might add it to the TBR). Also looking forward to your thoughts on Black Mad Wheel. I know what you mean about April and May releases. So what did I do last night? Started a book that is years old and wasn’t even on the immediate TBR. However, I did just finish “Greedy Pigs” and although I won’t post my review for some time – I loved it more than all the others.

I think I only have two new books on my radar this spring: Laini Taylor’s Strange the Dreamer, and Roshani Chokshi’s A Crown of Wishes. So the rest of the spring will be meant for catching up on other 2017 books I haven’t read yet (V.E. Schwab’s A Conjuring of Light, Jordanna Max Brodsky’s Winter of the Gods, Maria V. Snyder’s Dawn Study) and older novels that have been sitting on my shelves for a while. I also decided to bring Emily St. John Mandel’s Station Eleven with me on my upcoming trip to Iceland. 🙂
I’ve got The Only Child cued up for a read next, with City of Miracles waiting a bit closer to the release date.
I’m so excited that I got approved for Waking God’s on NetGalley – can’t wait to get started!
I’m reading Heartstone on your rec. Loving it! Yes, because I know P & P some things are not unexpected but many are. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Some interesting ones and most of them are new to me, so I hope you enjoy your reads. 🙂
I’m reading City of Miracles right now! I’m liking it so far. 🙂
I’ve already read an ARC of Brimstone but wasn’t a fan. Hopefully you’ll like it more than me.
I’ve also got a spring 2017 releases post coming up, just a bit later in the month. But I may need to edit it now that I’ve seen some of these books!
The Boy on the Bridge, most definitely! I can’t wait to see more of the post-apocalyptic world created by MR Carey…

Brimstone DOES sound good! I keep saying this with almost every Priest book yet I haven’t actually read any of them. lol Crazy excited for Waking Gods and If We Were Villains. Anything compared to The Secret History is a go for me.

I love the look of Brimstone and Ararat – and Borrowed Souls also looks great. I hope you really enjoy these ones, Tammy:)

I don’t have much planned out, but I’m awaiting a copy of The Malice, the sequel to The Vagrant. Looking forward to seeing how that story continues. Also looking forward to City of Miracles. Ararat isn’t on my list, but might be added at some point, looks interesting.
Looking forward to pretty much all of these too! If We Were Villains is new to me though, not surprising as it is not SFF, but I’m intrigued nonetheless! And VanderMeer is kinda hit and miss for me, but Borne looks kinda interesting!

Ararat- oh yeah! And Waking Gods because even though the first one didn’t wow me, it has a fantastic premise and- giant robots!!

I can’t believe I only found out yesterday about The Boy on the Bridge. I loved The Girl With All The Gifts so can’t wait to give this new book a try. I’ve requested it from the library but will probably end up buying it if I see it in the shops first.
The Secret History is a book I’ve been meaning to read for a long time now because everyone seems to recommend it. Did you enjoy it? I must get around to reading it and probably try If We Were Villains too.

I’m so nervous about anything compared to The Secret History – I’ll wait to see what you think 🙂
I’m so excited about The Boy on the Bridge!
From this list, I’m super excited about The Only Child! Love that Gothic atmosphere.
I just want all of these. Sorry, is that greedy, I can’t help it. But if I’m going to narrow it down – actually I don’t think I can – I want Priest/Neuvel/Pyper/Bennett/Mueller/Carey – there, I did narrow it down a little. But, I pretty much want the others as well 😀
Lynn 😀
So many good ones coming out soon, it’s a good year for great books. I can’t wait for The Boy on the Bridge. I loved The Girl With all the Gifts, so to have another book set in the same world is mind-blowing!
Agreed! I’m so curious to see how it’s going to tie in with TGWATG.
