Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish, where each week bloggers are given a new top ten list to blog about. Today starts a long string of cool TTT topics, and today we’re focusing on the books coming out during the first half of 2017 that we’re most excited about! This was hard to narrow down, I feel like 2017 is going to be another stellar year in SFF publishing. This is a pretty good mix of stand-alones and second or third in a series books. All titles are linked to Goodreads, so you can add these to your TBR if you’re so inclined. They are also listed chronologically according to release date:
Caraval by Stephanie Garber. Out in the wild: 1/31/17 (Flatiron Books). I’m reading this right now and wow. The hype was not wrong! This is a mix of The Night Circus and Alice in Wonderland. Look for my review next month!
Winter of the Gods (Olympus Bound #2) by Jordanna Max Brodsky. Out in the wild: 2/14/17 (Orbit). Happy Valentine’s Day to ME!! I’m super excited to continue this series about Greek Gods in the present day. This is a fantastic urban fantasy series, check out The Immortals first!
Miranda and Caliban by Jacqueline Carey. Out in the wild: 2/14/17 (Tor Books). Valentine’s Day will be very busy next year;-) I was just approved for this book on NetGalley and I couldn’t be more excited. Jacqueline Carey newbie here, folks!
A Conjuring of Light (Shades of Magic #3) by V.E. Schwab. Out in the wild: 2/21/17 (Tor Books). The finale to Schwab’s super cool series, I’m very excited to read this, but for some reason I forgot to request a review copy so I hope I can find time for it.
Star’s End by Cassandra Rose Clarke. Out in the wild: 3/21/17 (Saga Press). Clarke is without a doubt one of my favorite authors, and I can’t wait to read her latest! She didn’t have a new novel release in 2016 so I’m more than ready:-)
Phantom Pains (The Arcadia Project #2) by Mishell Baker. Out in the wild: 3/21/17 (Saga Press). Book two in Baker’s highly original urban fantasy series. I’m looking forward to more time with kick-ass character Millie.
City of Miracles (The Divine Cities #3) by Robert Jackson Bennett. Out in the wild: 5/2/17 (Broadway Books). Another end to a fantastic series, I’m glad we’ll get to see more of Sigrud in this final book.
Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward Children #2) by Seanan McGuire. Out in the wild: 6/13/17 (Tor.com). A strange and magical series of novellas that take the portal story in new directions. Highly recommended!
The Queen of Swords (Golgotha #3) by R.S. Belcher. Out in the wild: 6/27/17 (Tor Books). And yet another book three! I guess 2017 is the year I get to finish up some of my favorite series. I love this weird western thing Belcher has going on, although this book appears to be stepping away from the western setting.
Pitch Dark by Courtney Alameda. Out in the wild: 6/27/17 (Feiwel & Friends). I feel like I’ve been waiting for Alameda’s follow-up to Shutter forever, but I think it’s only been two years:-)
It’s no surprise that most of these have appeared on my Waiting on Wednesday posts. I just want to make sure you understand how excited I am about all these books!
The Jordanna Max Brodsky series sounds interesting. I do like Greek Gods!
It’s a fantastic series, so unique. It was a happy surprise reading the first book, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it so much.
Looking forward to City of Miracles, without a doubt!
I know, right? Such a good series, and Bennett is just an amazing writer.
Not heard of half of those but I hope you enjoy them.
Thanks for stopping by, Stormi:-)
I knew clicking on your blog might prove dangerous but not too bad overall. I was just approved for Miranda and Caliban as well and can’t wait. I also really want to read Winter of the Gods but need to read the first one yet. I have always been interested in that Belcher series and that cover is beautiful. Plus, you know I LOVE the McQuire series. I’ll probably find myself reading that one before January is over.

June seems so far away to wait for Sticks and Bones, right? I might cave in too. I’m just so curious to see where she’s going with this series!
The Immortals was a LOT of fun, so I’m also looking forward to Winter of the Gods. And I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying Caraval! I’m curious about it, too, but my luck with new YA fantasies is very “hit or miss,” so I might rent it from the library instead of buying it.
OK, some of the books I’m looking forward to in 2017… there are so many of them, but the ones I can remember off the top of my head are Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology, N.K. Jemisin’s The Stone Sky, Leigh Bardugo’s Wonder Woman, Laini Taylor’s Strange the Dreamer, and Roshani Chokshi’s A Crown of Wishes.

Thank you Sara, for mentioning The Stone Sky…OMG I did not even have that on my GR shelf!! What kind of Jemisin fan am I??? Caraval is really good, although probably not going to be a five star read for me (I’ll explain in my review:-))
i am really excited about Phantom Pains, and curious because the author tweeted that its not likely what readers expect

Oh cool! I hadn’t heard about that, but it definitely makes me curious:-)
I love the title Down Among the Sticks and Bones. Sounds very interesting.
Me too, all the titles of this series are long like that. Book three is called Beneath the Sugar Sky.
I’m doing my annual Most Anticipated list tomorrow – City of Miracles is definitely on there
Looking forward to your list, Bob!
Caraval and A Conjuring of Light were both on my list this week too!
We both have such good taste in books, right?? 😉
Miranda and Caliban will be my first Jacqueline Carey book, too! Hopefully I’ll love her because the Kushiel series has been on my radar for years.
I’m DYING to read Down Among the Sticks and Bones! I have such a good feeling about that one…Finish The Nature of a Pirate

I’ve been meaning to read Kushiel’s Dart for several years and I’m not sure why I couldn’t manage to squeeze it in. Maybe reading Miranda and Caliban will give me the jump start I need!
Seanan McGuire is one of my “buy everything they write” authors, but there are a few interesting choices to be made from your list…. 😀 Thanks for sharing!

I’m a fairly new Seanan McGuire fan but I love that she can switch gears so easily. She really is prolific and so talented:-)
2017 looks like it’s going to be immense. I can’t believe I missed the McGuire off my list (doh). And the Belcher book looks excellent too.
Lynn 😀
I missed a bunch on my list too, oh well! I agree, 2017 is going to be another great year:-)
Of these, PITCH DARK is still at the top of the list.
Agreed! I’ve been on a science fiction kick and this one is going to be epic, I predict:-)
I need to finally read the Robert Jackson Bennett books – and Every Heart a Doorway. There’s always things to catch up on…
Every Heart a Doorway is pretty short, so if you don’t have lots of time (like me!) I’d start there. Such a quirky story.
I absolutely definitely haven’t been considering binge reading novellas: Lost Child of Lychford, The Drowning Eyes, Every Heart a Doorway – sounds like a good weekend.
Winter of the Gods is near the top of my list too, can’t WAIT for that one. Loved The immortals. Star’s End looks promising and I love the cover of The Queen of Swords!

I hope we both love Winter of the Gods, it’s always interesting to see how that “book two” goes…
I can’t wait to read Pitch Black, Phantom Pains, and Down Among the Sticks and Bones! Great picks!
Lauren @ Always Me
Thanks Lauren! I seem to have lots of “book twos” on this list, lol.
YES to pretty much everything on this list! Except for the two books from series I’ve haven’t caught up with yet, Seanan McGuire’s and R.S. Belcher’s 🙂

Yes, the dreaded series that you need to catch up with. That’s always an ongoing struggle for me:-)
Caraval almost made my list… so glad to hear that you are enjoying it! Will definitely have to pick that one up. 🙂

I’m trying an experiment with Caraval, and that is to read ahead and try to start off the year with at least a couple of January reviews already completed. We’ll see how that goes!
I’m going to try to start one of my January ARCs soon too (the new Ellen Hopkins book). I already have so many review books for 2017 that I’m starting to rethink all my requests. lol
