Tammy’s Top Ten Books for the Rest of 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where each week bloggers are given a new top ten list to blog about. Wow, it’s been months since I did a TTT! But I like the themes for the rest of June, so expect to see more TTT posts soon:-) It was hard to narrow this list down to ten, so keep in mind there are many more books I’m excited to read from now until the end of the year. But these are the ones I’m MOST excited about. Here they are, in order of release date:

Paper and Fire (The Great Library #2) by Rachel Caine. You’ll notice that half of these are second books in a series, which I find interesting…and this is one of those. It’s also one of my MOST highly anticipated books of the year! Releases on 7/5/16.

Time Siege (Time Salvager #2) by Wesley Chu. Another follow-up, Chu’s science fiction series is quite different from his Tao books. I’m looking forward to getting back to his gritty, futuristic world. Releases on 7/12/16.

Four Roads Cross (Craft Sequence #5) by Max Gladstone. I’m a little behind in this series, but it’s one of my favorites. I know that two of my favorite characters from the first book are coming back, so I absolutely have to get my hands on a copy of this:-) Releases on 7/26/16.

Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton. I’ve heard this book compared to Station Eleven, which may have been the reason it caught my eye. We’ll find out soon how it compares, as I’ll be reviewing it in August. Releases on 8/9/16.

Nevernight The Nevernight Chronicle #1) by Jay Kristoff. It’s no secret I’m a big Kristoff fan, and this year he’s not only kicking off this new series, but he’s also releasing the follow-up to his über popular YA series The Illuminae Files (see below, it made this list too!) Releases on 8/11/16.

The Obelisk Gate (The Broken Earth #2) by N.K. Jemisin. Oh you guys, if you haven’t read The Fifth Season, you’re missing out on a beautiful book. You still have time to catch up before this book comes out in August! Releases on 8/16/16.

Like a River Glorious (The Gold Seer Trilogy #2) by Rae Carson. And yet another book #2! This YA series is a favorite among my blogger friends, for the simple reason that it’s a story that you just can’t put down. Releases on 9/27/16.

Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty. I just recently stumbled upon this book, the story blurb grabbed my attention, and now I can’t wait to read it:-) Releases on 10/18/16.

Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Illuminae blew me away with its creative and gorgeous graphic design, and from what the author has been saying, this one is going to blow it out of the water! Releases on 10/18/16.

Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I’ve been wanting to read this author since Signal To Noise was released, and this looks like a good place to start. Vampires. They’re still a thing, but they’re getting darker and meaner. Releases on 10/25/16.

I’d love to hear what your most anticipated books for the rest of the year are, let me know:-D

  1. I’m excited about several of the same books you’re excited about – Paper & Fire, The Obelisk Gate, Like a River Glorious, and Nevernight. I’m also looking forward to Leigh Bardugo’s Crooked Kingdom and Laini Taylor’s Strange The Dreamer. Oh, and the new Harry Potter story! I don’t usually read plays, but it’s Harry Potter – so, yeah. *lol*

  2. I knew this topic would be bad for the wishlist/TBR. I definitely want to read Paper and Fire, Certain Dark Things and Nevernight. However, a few others look good. I just got notice yesterday the hold I placed on Illuminae is in so I hope to pick it up tomorrow and put it on the reading list for early July. I’ve seen Good Morning, Midnight around quite a bit over the past few weeks so I will have to check into that one as well.

I have not read Gladstone’s books but I am always drawn to their covers. What is his writing/stories similar to?

That’s a tough question. He is so unique:-) If you enjoy beautiful writing and intricate world building, you’ll love him.

  4. I still have to read Ink and Bones, and Time Salvager – don’t be telling me their sequels are out soon 😉 Six Wakes sounds amazing, and I’m loving vampires mixed with Latin American mythology in Certain Dark Things, so thanks for featuring those!
