Over-Booked [50] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, my every-other-week-or-so post where I gather my newest and shiniest books together in a big pile and share them with you! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. Check out their posts for more bookish hauls:-)

I got some exciting books this week, and I’m grateful to each publisher who sent these my way. I had one VERY exciting book arrive that I requested (Nevernight!!) and some surprises as well. Here’s what I received:

Physical books:

OB 6-11

A couple of lovely books arrived from Tor:

Panacea by F. Paul Wilson. I was a big F. Paul Wilson fan waaay back, and I’m excited to read his latest horror novel. And I’ll be interviewing him as well in July, for the release of the book, so stay tuned for more details later.

Steeplejack by A. J. Hartley. I’ve been drooling over this book on NetGalley, but they were only offering an excerpt, then Steeplejack arrived in the mail unexpectedly! Very excited to check out this Tor Teen title:-) Thank you Tor!

Poisoned Blade (Court of Fives #2) by Kate Elliott. I haven’t read the first book, but getting this in the mail makes me want to go back and catch up. I haven’t read any Elliott yet and I need to take care of that!

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicles #1) by Jay Kristoff. I was THRILLED to receive Kristoff’s next novel, a start to a new YA series! In fact, I did a happy dance, and trust me when I say I NEVER do that, lol. Thank you Thomas Dunne Books!!

Sterling Publishers surprised me with some intriguing titles:

Captain America vs. Iron Man: Freedom, Security, Psychology edited by Travis Langley. These essays delve into the psychology of the characters, and although it sounds like a great read for someone who’s really into these guys, I’ll admit it’s not really my thing.  And in the same vein, Game of Thrones Psychology, also edited by Langley. These are beautiful books, but I’m willing to give them away if you’re a Game of Thrones or Captain America/Iron Man fan. Just let me know:-) Thank you Sterling!

Gods of Nabban by K.V. Johansen. Thanks to Pyr for this surprise arrival, it looks great! I don’t know if this is a series or not, and if so I hope it’s the first, does anyone know?

The Language of Dying by Sarah Pinborough. I’ve heard this is very sad, but I’m looking forward to reading it. A short novella from Jo Fletcher Books.

Digital books for review:

The Apartment by S. L. Grey. I’m so excited to read this horror story by Grey, who is actually well-known horror author Sarah Lotz. Haunted house story, in Paris! Sounds like fun:-) (Goodreads doesn’t have the description up, but if you’re on Edelweiss there’s good blurb there.)

A City Dreaming by Daniel Polansky. I’m so excited to read something else by Polansky, whose novella The Builders I really loved.

Behind the Throne by K.B. Wagers. The first in a series that the publisher is calling “Star Wars style.” That’s good enough for me!

The Obelisk Gate (The Broken Earth #2) by N.K. Jemisin. Oh boy, I was so excited to get the invite to download this book! I can’t wait to read more from this amazing writer, and this is one of my favorite series!

Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton. I just featured this as a Waiting on Wednesday pick, and I’m super excited to have a review copy!

Big thanks to Orbit, Anchor, Regan Arts and Random House!

And from the ever-generous Tor.com, four new novellas: The Warren by Brian Evenson, Impersonations by Walter Jon Williams, Hammers on Bone by Cassandra Khaw and Cold Forged Flame by Marie Brennan. I’m especially excited to read something by Marie Brennan, since I haven’t started her Lady Trent series yet.

OK, time to lock myself in my room and read:-) Are you looking forward to any of these books?

  1. I think I must be the only person on the planet who owns the Game of Thrones dvds but has never seen an episode! I think I’ll love it but I never seem to have time to sit down and watch it!

  2. THE OBELISK GATE!!! I can’t freakin’ wait for that one to come out, so I hope you really, really like it, Tammy. 😀 Also looking forward to your thoughts on Steeplejack and Nevernight.

I know!! Luckily it comes out this summer, and I know the time will fly so I hope we’ll BOTH be reading it soon:-D

  3. Great haul. I was thrilled to get Nevernight as well. The Game of Thrones book looks really pretty. I love the show and own all the books. Let me know if you find a magical reading room.

  4. I totally caved and requested Nevernight on NetGalley this week. And also Good Morning, Midnight after I saw several bloggers talk about how interesting it looked. And then Orbit sent their newsletter and it was like “HELP, I AM BEING BURIED ALIVE IN THIS DELUGE OF BOOKISH GOODNESS.” Needless to say, I may have to wait to request audio or finished copies of some of these if I want to keep up my NG stats, lol.

I know, that Orbit newsletter was pretty awesome. I only downloaded a couple, so I’m pretty proud of my restraint:-)
