Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where each week bloggers are given a new top ten theme. I love looking back and celebrating my favorite books of the year, but it’s so much fun to look ahead as well! This week we’re listing our top ten most anticipated books of the first half of 2016, so these books all come out in January – June. I’ve put them in order of release date, and clicking on the titles will take you to Goodreads:

City of Blades (The Divine Cities #2) by Robert Jackson Bennett. Release date: 1/26/16. I’m so excited to dive back into Bennett’s amazing world and reconnect with his characters. I’ll be reviewing this very soon! If you haven’t read City of Stairs, you have time to catch up before this one comes out.

All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders. Release date: 1/26/16. I’ve had a signed copy of the ARC since July, and I’ve been waiting until release month to read it.

The Hunt (Atlanta Burns #2) by Chuck Wendig. Release date: 2/9/16. I loved (and hated!) Atlanta Burns, but that’s the kind of emotional reaction I love to have when reading. So give me more! I’ve been waiting for The Hunt to pop up on NetGalley, but so far it hasn’t.

Morning Star (Red Rising #3) by Pierce Brown. Release date: 2/9/16. I’m so anxious to read the conclusion to this amazing trilogy, but it looks like I’ll be buying a copy when it comes out, since the publisher decided not to print review copies (or at least that’s what I was told).

A Criminal Magic by Kelly Lee. Releases 2/16/16. I’ve been talking about this book for months, and I’m pretty excited to have a review copy. Set in a world where magic is illegal, it looks like there is only one kind of magic: criminal magic!

A Gathering of Shadows (A Darker Shade of Magic #2) by V.E. Schwab. Release date: 2/23/16. 2016 seems to be the year of second books (here’s another one!), and I couldn’t be happier to continue this series. Publishers Weekly just gave A Gathering of Shadows a BOXED review (that’s the highest praise they give) so now I’m even more excited!

The Brotherhood of the Wheel by R.S. Belcher. Release date: 3/1/16. Belcher’s next book takes a minor character from his wonderful book Nightwise and does a spin-off of sorts. I can’t wait to see if other characters from Nightwise show up:-)

Fellside by M.R. Carey. Release date: 4/5/16. Ever since I read The Girl with All the Gifts a couple of years ago, I’ve been eagerly awaiting a new book from Carey. Looks like it’s almost here! The story description is pretty vague, but I have high hopes:-)

Sleeping Giants (Themis Files #1) by Sylvain Neuvel. Release date: 4/26/16. I’m starting to hear a lot of buzz about this book, which makes me very curious to see if it will live up to that buzz. I scored an ARC of Sleeping Giants at Comic Con in July, and it’s been patiently sitting on my bookshelf.

The Fireman by Joe Hill. Release date: 5/17/16. Who out there isn’t excited about a new Joe Hill book?? It’s been several years since his last release, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!

I’d love to hear what your most anticipated books of 2016 are. Are you excited about any of the books I’ve listed above?

  1. I definitely want the Wendig – I thought Atlanta Burns was excellent but I totally know what you mean about loving and hating it. It makes very harsh reading for sure. I was wondering when the next Miriam book was due out. I think there’s only one more due out in that series?
Plus, City of Blades – I’m excited for that one too.
    Lynn 😀

I know, exciting right? Joe Hill is one of those authors who I wish wrote faster so I’d have more to read:-)

  2. We share the Fireman and All the Birds in the Sky – and I just added Sleeping Giants to the TBR, so thanks!
Here’s the rest of my TTT. Thanks for sharing yours!

You’re the first blogger today I’ve seen with The Fireman, which kind of surprises me. I’m so excited for it, I can’t even…

  3. I just love that your list has no intersects with my own TTT because now I’ve got several more additions to my “check this out” list! Notably, A Criminal Magic looks like something I’d enjoy reading, but I’m intrigued by that V.E. Schwab series too.

It’s a very different world from the Six-Gun Tarot world, and I almost enjoyed it even more. Hope you get the chance to read it!

  4. Yesssss Morning Star and A Gathering of Shadows – cannot wait for either of them! 🙂 Might have to even pre-order Morning Star, which I rarely do. I don’t even like hardbacks but I don’t think I can wait for the paperback release.

I hardly ever preorder either. But Morning Star is one I’ll probably preorder too. I just NEED to find out how it all ends!
