Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and this week’s topic is very easy for me, unfortunately. (Unfortunately because there are so many series I want to start but haven’t had time to fit in.) I’m breaking the rules a bit, because not all of these can be considered “new,” but they are all definitely series that I am determined to get to soon. Here are my Top Ten New(ish) Series I Want to Start:
1. American Vampire series by M. L. Brennan. I just purchased the first two books, and I’m determined to read the first one this month.
2. Miriam Black series by Chuck Wendig. It’s a crying shame I haven’t read these books, being the huge Wendig fan that I am. I think I own all of them, too, so there really isn’t any excuse. Plus, Chuck just got an awesome book deal with the new Simon & Schuster imprint, Saga Press, who is re-releasing the books, and will be publishing three new ones!
3. Paradox series by Rachel Bach. I bought all three of these books after reading many gushing reviews, and I can’t wait to start!
4. Southern Reach Trilogy by Jeff VanderMeer. Here’s another series where I own the first two books but haven’t made time to read them yet.
5. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. I bought the first book when it came out, and since then it’s been gathering dust *weep*. I hear this series is a must-read, and I know lots of bloggers who love it. The fourth book in the series has not been titled yet (as far as we know).
6. The Others series by Anne Bishop. Oh how much I want to read these books! I might have purchased the first one, but I honestly don’t know, and I’d have to search through many many piles to find out.
7. The Last Policeman series by Ben H. Winters. This series about an asteroid that is about to hit earth has received some very good reviews.
8. The Golden City series by J. Kathleen Cheney. I won the first two books in a giveaway (yay!) so they are right here waiting for me. Book three comes out next year but doesn’t have cover art yet.
9. The Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch. Everyone, and I mean everyone, seems to love The Lies of Locke Lamora, so of course this series is on my list!
10. Reckoners series by Brandon Sanderson. You may think the more obvious Sanderson choice is The Way of Kings (which I haven’t read either), but I decided to choose his superhero series instead.
So there you have it. I’d love to hear if you’ve started (or finished) any of these series.
There are two series in this post which I haven’t started but want to start:
The Southern Reach Trilogy
and
The Last Policeman series
They both look very interesting, BUT there’s so much else to read and I am such a slow reader….
I know, I’m a pretty slow reader as well. I definitely need to quit the day job so I can lie around and read all day:-) (as if!)
I didn’t get on with the Gentlemen Bastard series but I know people who LOVE it. I’d be intrigued to see what you think if you get round to it.
I definitely want to give it a go!
Miriam Black! Southern Reach! Last Policeman! Let me help you prioritize: Last Policeman #1, Miriam Black #2, Southern Reach #3.
Wow, thanks Matt! That’s exactly what I need, someone to prioritize this list. Otherwise it’s too overwhelming…
I forgot to mention Gentleman Bastards. The Lies of Locke Lamorra was very good, but I thought the next two dropped off…others disagree, of course.
Miriam Black & Southern Reach Trilogy are both on my maybe list, but The Gentleman Bastard is definitely one series I need to catch up with.
I hadn’t heard of The Last Policeman, but now I’m curious . . .
I don’t think a lot of people have The Last Policeman on their radar, but I hear the books are a lot of fun.
Oh, Miriam Black, Miriam Black. Why arent thou on thy bookshelfe. Also, I just recently read the first three Gentleman Bastard books and that is where you should start. They are so brilliant.
Cool, that’s what I hear about them from just about every blogger EVER.
So did I. On this occasion the hype can be believed. 🙂
There are some great books on that list, some of my favorites. I also want to read Southern Reach
I’m starting the Southern Reach for sure next month for Sci Fi November.
I’m going to have to read Generation V and The Lies of Locke Lamora at some point!
Finally, someone else that hasn’t read Miriam Black! Or Southern Reach! Or Gentlemen Bastards! Company! Hah.
Ha ha, I’m glad it’s not just me:-)
I haven’t actually heard of any of these… Thanks for all the new suggestions! The Paradox series looks awesome!
Here are my Top Ten!
I think all of these are on my list, too. I have heard good things about the Generation V books. And my friend loves the Ann Bishop series. I am also a bit ashamed to admit that I have not started The Raven Cycle series either. Maybe we will both start it before the end of the year. Here’s hoping!
Yes, here’s hoping!!
Ah, you have some great choices here! Some that I’ve read and loved, and some that are on my own tbr list.
I’m a new email follower 🙂

Thanks for following, Ailsa!
I have read and adored The Gentleman Bastards, and The paradox series! then there are the many on the list that I also want to read – The Raven cycle, The last Policeman and The Southern Reach series. I just added The Golden City series when I saw it on somebody else’s list. I love series – there is just not enough hours in the day!
I know, it’s sad to think we might never get to all the books we want to read:-(
What pretty covers! I’ve been meaning to check out The Others series too. I thought you might have read the Miriam Black series since you are such a fan of that author! Hope you enjoy all of these when you get the chance to catch up 🙂
I started the Raven Cycle and it’s really good so far.
I’ve read the first two books in The Raven Cycle. I’m not sure if I’ll read the third. The series moves a bit too slowly for my taste.
Gaaaah this list is so full of awesome I don’t even know where to start. Generation V, Miriam Black, Paradox, Gentlemen Bastards – yes yes yes and yes. I loved Annihilation and I need to catch up with the series, same goes for The Others and The Golden City. The Last Policeman trilogy was pretty awesome as well, and I’m up to date with Sanderson’s Reckoners (can’t wait for Firefight!!!) The only one here I need to start as well is the Raven Cycle, I don’t know what’s taken me so long.
There are several up there that I hope to get too also. Never enough time.
Yes, yes yes to Fortune’s Pawn! The other books were awesome but not as fab as FP unfortunately. And ohhh The Raven Boys! I’m so anxious to make time for Blue Lily. I have got to read Written in Red too. I won the audiobook in a giveaway, was so ecstatic, have yet to listen. Lame. haha I really enjoyed the entire Last Policeman series, it was really impressive. You picked some amazing books. Hope you get around to them soon!
Holy crow please read The Raven Cycle ASAP. I’m seriously loving it. The only real problem is my suspense in waiting for the conclusion!
Lies Of Locke Lamora is SO HIGH on my TBR list. Everyone says amazing things about it.
I think all of those are on my list! I’ve had a friend trying to get me to read Scott Lynch for *years.* I loved his last recommendation for Ian Tregillis, so I’m sure I’ll love Scott Lynch’s work, when I finally dive in.
Some great choices here!! I fully support Miriam Black and Gentleman Bastard! I also really enjoyed Steelheart!
I just heard about the American Vampire series from another one of these top ten lists! I downloaded a book by Wendig onto my Kindle, because I liked his funny writing website. I’ve heard so much about the Raven Cycle too, but I haven’t read it yet either! So many good books!! Nice list. 🙂
The Others and The Gentleman Bastard are awesome series. I have to check the others to see if they are just as good.
There are only 3 series on here that I haven’t read or started! What a great list! The Last Policeman, Jeff Vandemeer and Lies of Locke Lamora being the ones I haven’t read yet. But other then that your list of the ones you marked down are all ones I’ve loved!
