Stacking the Shelves (52)

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and is a fun way to share the books you’ve acquired recently. Thankfully, I’ve had a very slow couple of weeks on the book acquisition front…I cannot even begin to tell you how behind I am with review books! I received a couple of surprises in the mail from Random House, and a couple of NetGalley titles:

In the mail:

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. Super excited to get this! I’m not sure if I entered a Publishers Weekly contest to get these two books, but I’m sure happy about this one. I’ve read some awesome reviews.

The Here and Now by Ann Brashares. This one, not so much. I have only read one positive review so far, and so I don’t know if I’ll be reading this anytime soon.

From NetGalley:

The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson. I’ve heard a lot of buzz about this title, and I’m pretty excited to read it!

Take Back the Skies by Lucy Saxon. The reviews on this seem to be mixed, but I’m still looking forward to it.

That’s it for me this week. Let me know what’s on your shelves!

  1. We Were Liars is surprisingly good – a very refreshing, thoughtful take on the tired-out genre of preppy summer stories set on New England islands. It will be the big one I recommend this year, when all those books get released in droves the moment the weather gets nice.

I hadn’t heard of The Kiss Of Deception but look forward to your review of it. It sounds interesting, especially the fact that the main character is born with a distinct lack of magical gift. Could be a nice change from the usual formula.

  2. The Kiss of Deception looks really good! Must not request must not request must not request…I curse that cover for drawing me in and clicking through to the goodreads link in the first place!

Sometimes the light weeks are nice. Like you said, more time to catch up.

  3. I definitely agree with you and Mogsy, it’s really nice once in awhile to have a “light” week to get caught up on some other review books – or heck even read something non-review that’s been on the TBR pile for awhile!

I have The Here and Now to review – and I hope I like it! *crosses fingers* I’m a little wary that the love/romance aspect of it will kill the book for me, since I prefer romance to be a side-plot and not the main entree. We’ll see!

I absolutely LOVED the E. Lockhart book I read awhile back.. The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks. I’ve been curious to read her other books ever since. We Were Liars sounds very intriguing! Definitely going to check it out!

  4. I grabbed Take back the Skies (Sometimes I really love it when the reviews are mixed I often think then that it means I’m really going to like it – is that odd?) as well it looks good good! I hope Kiss of Deception turns out good as well. I thought about The Here and Now but for some reason it just wasn’t calling to me ( haven’t checked out the reviews on it haha).
