Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, and is a fun way to share the books you’ve acquired. I skipped last weekend, so this is my book haul for the past two weeks.
For Review from NetGalley & Edelweiss:
Thorn Abbey by Nancy Ohlin. Release date: May 7 2013 (Simon Pulse). This story is based on Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, and I’m really looking forward to it. I don’t read a lot of historical fiction, but I love it, so I’m not sure why!
Dancer, Daughter, Traitor, Spy by Elizabeth Kiem. Release date: August 13 2013 (Soho Teen). I love the cover of this book, and I love the title that echoes the John Le Carré book (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy). Russian spies, ballet, visions, and disappearing mothers? Wow, I can’t wait to read this one!
The Darwin Elevator by Jason M. Hough. Release date: July 30 2013 (Del Rey). Honestly, I only read the first sentence before I clicked the “request” button on NetGalley: Jason M. Hough’s pulse-pounding debut combines the drama, swagger, and vivid characters of Joss Whedon’s Firefly with the talent of sci-fi author John Scalzi. Seriously, Firefly and Scalzi? After reading that blurb, I don’t really care what it’s about!
The Homecoming by Carsten Stroud. Release date: July 16 2013 (Knopf). It turns out this is the second book in a series (darn it!), so I’m going to try to catch up with Niceville before July. This book has “creepy” written all over it, and I can’t wait to read it.
Full Blooded and Hot Blooded by Amanda Carlson. These were “read now” books on NetGalley, so I grabbed both of them! I’ve had my eye on Full Blooded since it came out last year, and the next book in the series, Hot Blooded, comes out next month. Vampires and werewolves, together! I’m sorry, but I never get tired of vampires and werewolves…
Blaze by Laurie Boyle Crompton. This was another freebie from either NetGalley or Edelweiss…shoot, I can’t remember and I can’t find it on either site! Weird. Anyway, Blaze came out in February and it’s been on my list to read. Blaze is a comic artist! I love that, and I’m sure this is going to be a fun read.
Received from the author for review:
Black Magic by Russell James. Release date: May 7 2013 (Samhain Publishing). I guess Russell must have seen my recent Top Ten list, where I listed Black Magic as one of the books I’m looking forward to reading this spring. He very kindly sent me a review copy. Don’t you just love the cover?
Received for Blog Tour:
Residue by Laury Falter. I’m participating in Laury’s blog tour in April. This story takes place in New Orleans and involves voodoo and witchcraft. Awesome!
Won:
I won this really cool swag pack from Spencer Hill Press during their promotion of The Dollhouse Asylum. It’s got bookmarks, tattoos, a dog bone necklace, even a guitar pick! Thanks Spencer Hill!
Purchased:
I have Poison on a couple of reading challenges, and I wanted to support the late Bridget Zinn and read her book. And I’ve heard so many amazing things about Midwinterblood and Earth Girl, that I couldn’t pass them up. Let the Sky Fall looks so good, and I’ve seen some great reviews of the book. Let’s hope I can find time to read these!
So, have you read any of these? I’d love to hear, and let me know what’s on your shelves this week, too:)
yay I want Mila 2.0 and Let The Sky Fall myself, great set of books!
Your books this week all sound really really good! Yay!!!

I bought Let the Sky Fall yesterday. Ha! Curious to hear your thoughts on Thorn Abbey. I’m on the fence about reading that one.
