Welcome to my latest “can’t wait for it” book! Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a great way for bloggers to share the books they’re excited about. This week I can’t wait to read:
I mean, look at this cover. It practically tells a story before you even open up the book! There’s a creepy ghost hovering behind the girl in the chair, and the girl is not only holding something strange in one hand, but she’s got a steampunk-like pair of goggles around her neck…so cool! Not to mention the old-fashioned dress she’s wearing and the chair she’s sitting in. Here’s what Goodreads says:
In 1918, the world seems on the verge of apocalypse. Americans roam the streets in gauze masks to ward off the deadly Spanish influenza, and the government ships young men to the front lines of a brutal war, creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion. Sixteen-year-old Mary Shelley Black watches as desperate mourners flock to séances and spirit photographers for comfort, but she herself has never believed in ghosts. During her bleakest moment, however, she’s forced to rethink her entire way of looking at life and death, for her first love—a boy who died in battle—returns in spirit form. But what does he want from her?
Featuring haunting archival early-twentieth-century photographs, this is a tense, romantic story set in a past that is eerily like our own time.
Mary Shelley??? I am really intrigued and I want to know more. In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters will be released on April 2 2013 by Amulet Books.
What are you waiting on?
This looks like my kind of book. I haven’t seen it before. Off to add it to my TBR List….
