It’s Wednesday, folks! A day to unveil our super-excited-to-read books! Head over to Breaking the Spine to learn how you can participate too. This week I’m super-excited-to-read this:
Poison by Bridget Zinn. Release date: March 12 2013 (Disney/Hyperion).
Not to put a downer on this blog, but a commenter just informed me that Bridget passed away, more than a year ago. I did not know this until I read her comment (thanks Sonia). So sad, but now I want to read this book more than ever, if only to honor her memory. She was very young, 33, and that makes me feel old.
Just look at this cover. And the title font. Doesn’t it just scream “fairytale?!” Whenever I see mushrooms and the tangled branches of trees, I get goose bumps, because I just know this story is going to be right up my alley. And did you see the pig?? Seriously, if that doesn’t hook you, I don’t know what will. Here’s the description from Goodreads:
Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction–which means she’s the only one who can save it. Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom’s future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend. But, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart…misses. Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king’s army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. At least she’s not alone. She’s armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can’t stop thinking about. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her?
Kyra is not your typical murderer, and she’s certainly no damsel-in-distress–she’s the lovable and quick-witted hero of this romantic novel that has all the right ingredients to make teen girls swoon.

This sounds SO GREAT, I can’t wait to read it ๐ I love fairytale type reads and the cover for this just screams that. So sad to hear the author passed away… Thanks for sharing!
Sonia, I did not realize she had passed away. Thanks for letting me know, I’ve added a small update to my post about it. From what I could tell from doing a little web surfing, she was in the process of writing a sequel. Perhaps someone will finish it for her eventually.
I want this book too!! Great pick! Thanks so much for spotlighting it today. Please check out my WoW!
This is definitely going on my list. The cover is amazing and I love the little pig. Can’t wait!
I almost picked this one for my WoW this week but at the last moment I changed it. I can’t wait to get this book. It sounds so good! Plus who doesn’t love a cute little piglet sidekick? Haha.

This one sounds really good, I love the cover! I might need to add this to my oversized TBR pile.
I’ve seen this one and it sounds great. I hope you enjoy it when you get the chance to read it. Great pick!
Come check out my WOW post.
Ooooh, I like the sound of this one. It sort of reminds me of Snow White’s back-story on the show, Once Upon A Time. Fierce, independent heroine’s are right up my alley. I’m interested to hear what you think once you’ve actually read it.
Great pick!! I’ve seen this one around. It sounds interesting! ๐
