Favorite Books A-Z – Male Writers

Last week I had a blast coming up with my Favorite Books A-Z – Female Writers, where I listed favorite books that started with each letter of the alphabet. This week it’s the guys’ turn! Obviously there are multiple faves for each letter, so this list isn’t complete by any means. I did enforce one rule on myself, and that was that I could only include one book for each author. In other words, even though I wanted to use Daryl Gregory for letters A, S and W, and Rod Belcher for B, K, N, S and Q (!!) I was not allowed! And the same caveat applies this week as well: if I included any trans or non-binary authors by accident on this list, please let me know so I can correct my mistake.

Let’s get started! (click on the titles to read my reviews)

A – Afterparty by Daryl Gregory

B – Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames

C – California Bones by Greg van Eekhout

D – Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

E – Endsinger by Jay Kristoff

F – The Fifth House of the Heart by Ben Tripp

G – The Genius Plague by David Walton

H – Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix

I – I Am Providence by Nick Mamatas

J – Jackaby by William Ritter

K – Kill Creek by Scott Thomas

L – The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards

M – The Martian by Andy Weir

N – The Naturalist by Andrew Mayne

O – One of Us by Craig diLouie

P – The Punch Escrow by Tal M. Klein

Q – The Queen of Swords by R.S. Belcher

R – Railhead by Philip Reeve

S – The Suicide Motor Club by Christopher Buehlman

T – Titanshade by Dan Stout

U – The Unnoticeables by Robert Brockway

V – Vostok by Steve Alten

W – Wanderers by Chuck Wendig

X – Generation X by Douglas Coupland (we’re going way back, folks, way before blogging!)

Y – The Oracle Year by Charles Soule (yep this letter was tough!)

Z – Zero World by Jason M. Hough

I loved revisiting some old favorites, and I hope this post gives you a few new, OLDER books to check out.

  1. I’ve had a few of these on my lists overtime, and never really followed through on them. Looks like I might need to revisit! Namely: The Genius Plague and The Oracle Year. I’ve also had an interest in The Naturalist and Jackaby. And finally- I have no idea what that Steve Alten book is about but I think I need to add it!

  2. This is great – wish I’d thought to split my list into male and female. Twice the amount of books that way – what a cunning plan.
Some great reads on here. I particularly love seeing Fifth House – wasn’t there another book planned or did I just dream that?

I keep stalking Ben Tripp to see if he has another book coming out but I haven’t heard of anything yet:-(

You should do your own list sometime, it’s fun to see how many books you have for each letter.

  3. Oh what a fabulous list! There are a number on there that are on my URGENT wishlist Dark Matter, The Naturalist and Wanderers to name but three.

  4. Another great list, Tammy. As with your list of female authors there’s only one on this list I’ve read (The Martian), but there are a couple I own and several others I hope to one day read. You and Mogsy inspired me to come up with a list of my own, or as much of one as I could. I’ll put that up Thursday. Thanks for the inspiration.

  5. I’m really enjoying these lists everyone is putting out! I think I’ve only read a couple off of yours. 🙂 I very much want to check out Jackaby, it sounds like a very ‘me’ type of book. 🙂
