Over-Booked [99] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Huge thanks to all the publishers who sent books my way! I had some lovely surprises come in the last few weeks, so let’s jump in:

Physical books for review:

The Witch’s Kind by Louisa Morgan. I love stories about witches and this sounds like a really good family drama. I enjoyed the last book of hers, A Secret History of Witches, and I’ll be reading it this month.

The True Queen by Zen Cho. I haven’t read Sorcerer to the Crown, but if I understand correctly this can be read as a standalone. I also hope to read it this month, as it’s a March release.

The Near Witch by V.E. Schwab is a reprint of Schwab’s first book, and I’m thrilled to have this GORGEOUS copy from Titan books! If I had more time I’d take photos of the end papers and the boards, but maybe when I post my review I’ll show you all the details.

The Girl in Red by Christina Henry was a complete surprise, and I cannot wait to read it! Henry is one of my favorite authors. Her fiction is very dark, if you haven’t read her yet, and this Little Red Riding Hood retelling will most likely be dark as well!

Pariah by W. Michael Gear is the third book in his FANTASTIC Donovan series. You may have caught my reviews of the first two books:-D I can hardly wait to dive in! For some reason I received two ARCs of this book so let me know if you’re reading this series and want my spare!

I had completely forgotten I requested Titanshade by Dan Stout, so when it showed up I was super excited! This cover is giving me serious Alien Nation vibes, and I’ve already heard some bloggers raving about it. This is also a March title, so look for a review this month.

Huge thanks to Orbit Books, Ace Books, Titan Books, Berkley books and Daw Books!

Robin Kirk contacted me about three times before I finally threw up my hands in defeat and agreed to read her book, The Bond. Hey, persistence pays off sometimes! But I really do want to read this. I initially turned her down simply because I have way too many books for review at the moment. But the closer I look at this, I’m excited because it’s got a dog as a character, and I’m very curious to read this story about “a girl and her mutant battle dog named 12.” Big thanks to the author!

The Beyond by Chloe Neill is book four in her Devil’s Isle series, which I’m not reading, unfortunately. But I wish I was! This sounds amazing. Is anyone reading this? Thank you Berkley!

Several months ago I backed a Kickstarter for This Dreaming Isle, a lovely book of stories from one of my favorite UK small presses, Unsung Stories. The collection focuses on British folk tales, and the list of contributors is a good mix of known and unknown writers (to me).

Finally, in the physical pile, I received this amazing box, celebrating the new release of Tina LeCount Myers’ Dreams of the Dark Sky, the second book in her series after last year’s The Song of All. The box included both books as well as a candle, some Finnish mints (!) and a Tarot card! I may be participating in a giveaway of this box, so stay tuned! Huge thanks to Wunderkind PR and Night Shade Books for my box:-D

Digital books for review:

I was THRILLED to get an invite to read Wanderers by Chuck Wendig on NetGalley. I had sent in a special request for a review copy, but was losing hope since I hadn’t heard back from anyone. Now I cannot wait to read this! It’s pretty epic and comes in at 800 pages, which is like two normal books for me. But seriously, this is one of my most anticipated 2019 books!

So, I have a funny story about Westside by W.M. Akers. I had been trying to get my hands on an ARC for several months (unsuccessfully, long story) and then within a week I was approved for an eARC on both Edelweiss and NetGalley, AND I won a copy in a Goodreads giveaway! LOL.  So I’m extremely happy to have this, no matter what form it’s in.

Another HarperVoyager title that I cannot wait to read, and that I’ve also highlighted before is The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling. The cover along should pique your interest!

And finally, yet another HV title, The Grand Dark by Richard Kadrey. I love when books I feature on Waiting on Wednesday/Future Fiction pop up on NetGalley!

Rounding out the digital haul this week is Salvation Day by Kali Wallace, which sounds like an excellent SF thriller. Super excited to see lots of great reviews already on GR.

Big thanks to HarperVoyager, Del Rey Books and Berkley Books!

And that’s my haul this week! Let me know if you’re planning on reading any of these books:-D

I love long books too, I just don’t read them very often. I think I’ll be ready for Wanderers soon, though:-)

  1. After seeing your post, I immediately requested Pariah on NetGalley. I also have Westide on my review list. I’m looking forward to both of these books very much!

Glad to hear you’ve read the first book in her series, I’m going to read these if I have time.

  2. Some great looking books! I am a bit jealous you got The Girl in Red! I have only tried one of Henry’s books but I did like it and this one sounds super cool! Hope it’s as good as it sounds!

I was really surprised to get The Girl in Red, I’ve loved all of her books, so I’m sure I’ll love this as well:-)

  3. Last week I blew through The Witch’s Kind and loved it! I can’t believe I almost decided not to read it, it was amazing! And I also got the Tina Lecount Myers box, it’s so beautiful! Hoping to read and review the first book soon. also very happy to get my copy of The Near Witch this week too.

  4. What a wonderful haul. I read the first Devil’s Island book and really liked it but haven’t continued so far. I’m sure you are well aware of how envious I am of your copies of the Henry book and Pariah. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts even though I know I’ll be picking them up regardless. I think this is one of your best hauls yet!

  5. I first heard about The Luminous Dead when you talked about it a while back and I’m excited to read reviews about this book! 😀

Me too, I don’t think I’ve read any blogger reviews yet, but it sure has high ratings on Goodreads!
