Waiting on Wednesday [330] THE GIRL IN RED by Christina Henry

Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!

You know me, I can’t resist a cover reveal, and I was thrilled to see the cover of Christina Henry’s next book revealed! You guys, I love this cover so much:

From the national bestselling author of Alice comes a postapocalyptic take on the perennial classic “Little Red Riding Hood”…about a woman who isn’t as defenseless as she seems.

It’s not safe for anyone alone in the woods. There are predators that come out at night: critters and coyotes, snakes and wolves. But the woman in the red jacket has no choice. Not since the Crisis came, decimated the population, and sent those who survived fleeing into quarantine camps that serve as breeding grounds for death, destruction, and disease. She is just a woman trying not to get killed in a world that doesn’t look anything like the one she grew up in, the one that was perfectly sane and normal and boring until three months ago.

There are worse threats in the woods than the things that stalk their prey at night. Sometimes, there are men. Men with dark desires, weak wills, and evil intents. Men in uniform with classified information, deadly secrets, and unforgiving orders. And sometimes, just sometimes, there’s something worse than all of the horrible people and vicious beasts combined.

Red doesn’t like to think of herself as a killer, but she isn’t about to let herself get eaten up just because she is a woman alone in the woods….

The Girl in Red by Christina Henry. Releases in August 2019 from Berkley Books. Christina Henry is one of my “must read” authors, and I’ve been waiting for more information on this book for months. I’m happy to see that’s it’s finally on Goodreads, and wow, don’t you love this cover? A post-apocalyptic Little Red Riding Hood?? And I love that this LRRH is wearing a hoodie:-) If you haven’t read Henry’s books before, this looks like an excellent place to start. Although I recommend just about everything she’s written so far.

Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-D

  1. There was a book I had seen earlier and I was going to use it for todays post but couldn’t think of it so didn’t do a post. This is the book!!!! I am really curious about this one!!!

    • OH NO! How have I not seen this one??? Beauty and the Beast and Little Red Riding Hood are my two favorite tales so you know I’m going to be all over this one. You know I loved Lost Boy and even The Mermaid, although not as dark as I’d like, was a good read. I’ll never make it to August. And that cover. Here wolfie wolfie!

The cover just came out, and it’s only been on Goodreads for a few weeks. I follow her on Facebook and she’s been dropping hints, so I was ready:-)

Any of her books are good, the first one I read was Alice, and it’s a dark retelling of Alice in Wonderland.

  2. Yes! I’ve been almost stalking Christina Henry’s Twitter at this point for updates, so when she revealed the cover I was so excited and in love with it. I think this sounds fantastic, and I’ve yet to meet a book by Henry that I don’t like. Can’t wait! Great pick 🙂

  3. Oh, this is a great share, Tammy! I have a signed copy of Lost Boy from when the author visited our local bookshop, but I am sad to say I haven’t read it yet. This cover should win an award. Like you, I love the hoodie. I’ll definitely need to read this one and I hope you enjoy it!

I love that she’s doing another retelling, I’ve been so impressed with everything so far she’s written.

  4. while sharing your post on twitter I realized she is the author of The Mermaid! One of the best books I’ve read!!! I’m so reading her other books. this one A MUST!

  5. I love the sound of this. Impossible to believe but in spite of owning at least two of this author’s books and loving the sound of them I still haven’t read any of her books. I have to read faster – or prioritise better. Send help.
