The Friday Face-Off: Hero

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: “I am Aragon, son of Arathorn; and if by life or death I can save you, I will.” – A cover featuring a hero.

My hero choice this week is almost an anti-hero, but I thought it would be fun to feature Ready Player One by Ernest Cline since it has so many great covers. And protagonist Wayne Watts is definitely a hero in my book:-D Let’s take a look at some of the covers:

Crown U.S. hardcover edition 2011 | Broadway Books U.S. paperback edition 2012

Bulgarian edition 2014 | Romanian edition 2016

Indonesian edition 2018 | Bengali edition 2018

Estonian 2017 | Georgian 2016

Russian edition 2013 | French edition 2013

I barely scratched the surface with these ten covers. If you go to Goodreads, you’ll see a bunch more. Before I choose my favorite, I want to mention that I think this is the first time I’ve highlighted a Georgian and Bengali cover, and I love them both! In fact, the Bengali cover is #2 for me, but my favorite goes to the Indonesian cover. It’s got a fantastic graphic novel vibe to it!

Which one do you like best?

  1. How have I never seen any of these covers except the first two ?!? I didn’t even realize there were so many! I really like the Bengali cover but the Romanian is my favorite! Great choice this week, and I agree Wade Watts is totally a hero!

  2. I swear your site needs a TBR health warning – this is yet another book I haven’t yet read and you’ve reminded me that I should! There isn’t one here I dislike, but it’s the Bengali cover for me – it’s got that gaming vibe so well. Fabulous choice of book for this week’s theme, Tammy:)

  3. I love the Broadway Books U.S. paperback edition, those trailer stacks are just so iconic. Back when the promos for the movie first came out, they showed them in one quick scene and I was practically screaming with joy!

  4. Ooh fun covers! I like the Romanian one the best, for the retro style video gameyness, but the Broadway books (that’s the cover I have) and the Indonesian one are great too. And I actually like the French one too, now that I take a closer look, for the way they show the stacks there. Great picks!!!
