Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!
This month I’m focusing all my Waiting on Wednesday posts on science fiction, in celebration of Sci Fi Month! Here is my week #3 pick, a book I’m very excited for:
A feminist Guardians of the Galaxy—a smart, swashbuckling, wildly imaginative adventure of a rag-tag team of brilliant misfits, dangerous renegades, and enhanced outlaws in a war-torn future.
A wildly successful innovator to rival Steve Jobs or Elon Musk, Vivian Liao is prone to radical thinking, quick decision-making, and reckless action. On the eve of her greatest achievement, she’s trying to outrun those who are trying to steal her success.
In the chilly darkness of a Boston server farm, Viv sets her ultimate plan into motion. A terrifying instant later, Vivian Liao is catapulted through space and time to a far future where she confronts a destiny stranger and more deadly than she could ever imagine.
The end of time is ruled by an ancient, powerful Empress who blesses or blasts entire planets with a single thought. Rebellion is literally impossible to consider–until Vivian arrives. Trapped between the Pride, a ravening horde of sentient machines, and a fanatical sect of warrior monks who call themselves the Mirrorfaith, Viv must rally a strange group of allies to confront the Empress and find a way back to the world and life she left behind.
A magnificent work of vivid imagination and universe-spanning action, Empress of Forever is a feminist Guardians of the Galaxy crossed with Star Wars and spiced with the sensibility and spirit of Iain M. Banks and William Gibson.
Empress of Forever by Max Gladstone. Releases in June 2019 from Tor Books. Max Gladstone does science fiction?? This sounds like a bunch of fun, and I love the Guardians of the Galaxy/Star Wars comparisons.
I need this. I require it. OMG I want it.
Ha ha, I know how you feel;-)
I WANNNNNNNNNNNNT. I hate waiting *is grumpy* Great pick, Tammy!
Ha ha, waiting is the WORST.
I haven’t had a lot of luck with Gladstone, but “feminist Guardians of the Galaxy crossed with Star Wars” sounds interesting, and “sensibility and spirit of Iain M. Banks and William Gibson” really catches my attention. Plus, great cover!
This sounds so different from his other books, and I’m glad he’s finally changing things up.
Got this one on my Santa list and I’ve been a good girl! LOL Wow, I love that cover and it sounds so good.

That sounds pretty interesting and the woman on the cover is looking totally badass. Great choice!
I love badass, so I have to agree with you:-)
You had me at A feminist Guardians of the Galaxy”. I hadn’t heard of this one before, but now I definitely need to read this one. Thank you for bringing it to my attention! Have a great week!
Thanks, you too! Glad I could make your TBR a little heavier, lol;-)
This one’s definitely on my list too, though I can’t remember if I finished the Craft Sequence, and if not, I really should get that done before jumping into another new Gladstone book. GAH I feel forever behind!

I don’t think this is related to the Craft Sequence at all, so why not just dive in? 😉
I love the sound of a feminist Guardian of the Galaxy crossed with Star Wars. I’ll definitely be watching for yur thoughts, Tammy!

This sounds amazing. Also! When I went to his reading at WFC, Max read a scene from this. I liked what I heard and I can tell it’s going to be one heck of a fun ride.
