#RRSciFiMonth – The Friday Face-Off: Scary Cover

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: “There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it. ” – A scary cover.

I’m not sure how scary these covers are, but the story definitely had its frightening moments. The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey is still one of my favorite horror/science fiction stories, and because it’s Sci Fi Month, I’m trying to pick sci-fi books for each Friday Face-Off this month. This is quite an odd collection of covers, I feel like they are all over the place.  But hey, let’s go with it and let me know what you think!

U.S. hardcover 2014 | French edition 2018

Bulgarian edition 2014 | Indonesian edition 2017

U.S. paperback movie tie-in 2016 | Chinese edition 2015

Russian edition 2016 | Serbian edition 2016

In my opinion, the creepiest cover has to be the Russian one, the smile on Melanie’s face is seriously going to give me nightmares! The Serbian and Indonesian covers are just. . . weird. I’m not usually a fan of movie tie-ins, and this one doesn’t do anything for me. I still love the U.S. edition, but for me the French edition takes the same idea and color scheme and just does a better job overall:

Let me know what you think, which one do you like best?

  1. The Russian edition is terrifying, and I’m not sure in a good way and the Indonesian one looks like an anime book. I think I prefer the same one you picked for the creepy factor. I’ve not read the book but found the movie to be pretty good!

  2. The french is my fave too
They are all very pretty tho. The Indonesian one is quite cute, but it doesn’t go well with the story in my opinion.

  3. I like the Indonesian one but it doesn’t seem to go with the rest of the covers so I am guessing it doesn’t fit the story? I like the Russian one too, she kind of looks like a young Harley Quinn (I know Harley didn’t become Harley until she was an adult but if she was Harley as a kid that is what I think she would look like!)

  4. Wow – that Bulgarian version gives me the chills. Love your choice, so similar and yet the changes really do bring something more to it.
