Over-Booked [84] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I’m keeping the incoming book pile (sort of) under control. Just a few new review books in the last two weeks, but I’m super excited to read all of these!
Physical books for review:

I’ve only read one Gretchen McNeil book (Ten, which was a lot of fun), and so I said “yes” when I was offered her upcoming gory YA thriller. #murdertrending sounds like the kind of black humor I love, I’m looking forward to it. Thank you Freeform Books/Disney!

I was pitched this short story collection by veteran author Joe R. Lansdale and his daughter Kasey Lansdale, and I just had to say yes! Terror is Our Business: Dana Roberts’ Casebook of Horrors collects the authors previously published stories about supernatural investigator Dana Roberts. Super excited to read this. Big thanks to Smith Publicity and Cutting Block Books!

Glimpse by Jonathan Maberry is a book I’ve seen in other bloggers’ book hauls, so I was delighted to receive a surprise copy from St. Martin’s Press. It sounds like it could be good!

I was super excited to win a copy of Robert Jackson Bennett’s next book, Foundryside, and I don’t know how long I will wait to read it. Huge thanks to Crown Books!

Finally, I received a cool surprise from Orbit Books, a book that’s been on my wish list but I didn’t request it because, well, trying to cut back. But I’m so happy to have a copy of One of Us by Craig DiLouie! It sounds exactly like my kind of book:-) Thanks Orbit!
Digital books for review:

Huge thanks to Stephanie Burgis for a copy of her upcoming anthology The Underwater Ballroom Society, co-edited with Tiffany Trent. This is such a cool idea!

April is going to be the Month of the Blog Tour for me—I’ve joined three!—and this is one of them. Risen by Cole Gibsen is a YA vampire story (and I cringe to mention that it’s being compared to Twilight, even though I am an unabashed fan) which sounds pretty good. Thanks to Entangled Teen!

Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young is for another upcoming blog tour in April, and this book pushes all my buttons, and it’s got some great reviews. Thanks to Wednesday Books:-)

And finally, another example of “Be careful leaving comments on other people’s blogs.” I left a comment on The Bibliosanctum’s guest post with Sigil Independant’s Matt Presley, regarding bloggers who do or don’t read self-published books, and Matt contacted me and challenged me to read a book from one of the authors he represents. Of course I had to say “yes”! I chose Paternus by Dyrk Ashton simply because it’s already on my TBR (after reading plenty of positive reviews), and I hope to read it very soon. Thank you Matt!
Purchased:

My preorder copy of Obsidio by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman finally showed up! Now I just need to carve out some time to read it:-)

And this is the February edition of Apex Magazine, isn’t it beautiful? You too can subscribe for a mere $8 a month (plus shipping) and be the proud owner of this gorgeous little zine!

And that’s a wrap for this time around! Let me know if you plan to read any of these books:-D

Me too Sara! But once in a while a really good debut comes along. Hopefully this is one of them.

I hadn’t heard of #murdertrending either until it showed up. I’m glad to know about it now:-)

  1. Sky in the Deep sounds so good! I can’t wait to read your review and try it for myself! I also grabbed a copy of Obsidio and I’m really looking forward to it too. 🙂 Happy reading!

I’m a little nervous, blog tours stress me out a bit. I’m not sure how I ended up on three!

  2. I get Apex on my Kindle and have been debating getting a physical copy each month but haven’t made the leap yet. I like the looks of that Lansdale book and I also really can’t wait to hear your thoughts on One of Us – so read it soon 🙂

    • Tammy

Ha ha, I will try to read One of Us as soon as I can, although I think it’s a July release so you might have to wait a while:-)

Oh I have Sky in the Deep and can’t wait to start it but #murdertrending has been on my wish list for a while. I hope you enjoy it!

  4. #murdertrending is one I’m looking forward to also! It looks fun. And I love that cover of The Underwater Ballroom Society- plus it just sounds good. Sky in the Deep I’m kind of excited to read too. Hope these are all good! And yay for Obsidio!

I can’t wait to start Obsidio! I need to literally set aside a weekend when no one will interrupt me (nearly impossible!)

  5. Haha, I’m glad Matt reached out! I’ve heard great things about Paternus, I know it scored very high and my co-blogger who reviewed it gave it good marks. Also very curious about #murdertrending, I went back and forth on it when I got the email pitch but ultimately had to pass because I’m just too far behind. I hope you enjoy it!

I’ve read quite a few good reviews of Paternus so I figured it was a “safe” self pub book to choose;-)

Obsidio is about the same size as the others, but they go pretty quickly because of all the graphics.

  6. I’m trying really, really hard to say no this year, but I had to say yes to the new Lansdale, too. 🙂 I can’t wait to hear what you think of Paternus. That one caught my eye as well. I remember seeing positive reviews for it.

  7. I hope you like Paternus. It’s a crazy action packed book.
I fancy Risen – it just calls out to me. I shall add it to my wishlist.
    Lynn 😀

  8. Risen, OMG! I’m very curious about the book – I think I have a widget in my emails somewhere. It sounds awesome and I’ve definitely been in a vampire romance kick recently. I loved Sky in the Deep – I need to preorder the book and take advantage of that preorder campaign. 😀 I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

Have a wonderful week, Tammy. =)

I can’t wait to read Sky in the Deep, I remember your review and how much you enjoyed it!

    • Tammy

Definitely a lot of great reading ahead! And I didn’t even know about this Lansdale book until recently so I’m really excited to dig in:-)

  9. I really like the sound of Risen and #murderistrending. I look forward to hearing what you make of these ones, in particular – although you have a lovely collection here, Tammy. Many thanks for your kind words regarding my sister – I appreciated it:)

    • Tammy

I hope your sister is doing better. I will look forward to hearing good news on your blog soon:-)

Ha ha I usually hate big books too, but The Illuminae Files are literally 75% graphics so they read pretty quickly.

  10. I’ve been looking at Paternus here and then too! It sounds like a lot of fun and I too have seen some really tantalizing reviews for it! Hope you also enjoy Obsidio! Happy reading, Tammy! 😀
