Waiting on Wednesday [290] -VENGEFUL by V.E. Schwab

Waiting on Wednesdays is the brainchild of Jill at Breaking the Spine, and because Jill isn’t hosting it any more, I’m now linking up with Can’t Wait Wednesday at Wishful Endings. Stop over there and link up your “Can’t Wait” book of the week!

This week was tough. I discovered two AMAZING cover reveals and I honestly had some angst trying to figure out which one to feature this week. This week’s book gets a slight edge because I already knew about it and I’m over the moon excited!

From the author of A Darker Shade of Magic comes Vengeful, the highly-anticipated sequel to V. E. Schwab’s debut adult novel Vicious, a masterful tale of ambition, jealousy, and superpowers.

A super-powered battle of genius, cruelty, and the lengths one will go for vengeance—V. E. Schwab returns with the end to the Villains duology.

Magneto and Professor X. Superman and Lex Luthor. Victor Vale and Eli Ever.

Sydney Clarke once had Serena—beloved sister, betrayed enemy, powerful ally. But now she’s alone, except for her thrice-dead dog, Dol. And then there’s Victor, who thinks Sydney doesn’t know about his most recent act of vengeance.

Victor himself is under the radar these days—being buried and re-animated can strike concern even if one has superhuman powers. But despite his own worries, his anger remains.

And Eli Ever still has yet to pay for the evil he has done.

Vengeful (The Villains #2) by V.E. Schwab. Releases in September 2018 from Tor Books. I have been waiting for this book for FIVE YEARS. Actually, this book didn’t even exist five years ago when Vicious came out, but I’m so happy that it’s getting a sequel. Vicious is one of those really special books for me, and I’m a little worried that Vengeful will not live up to my expectations, which are staggeringly high.  Vicious is also getting a make-over!

Let me know what you’re waiting on this week:-D

  1. Ahhhhh Vengeful!!! I read Vicious around Christmastime and absolutely loved it. But I thought I read on V.E. Schwab’s Twitter feed not too long ago that she’s rewriting Vengeful from scratch…? So I wonder if it’s still going to be ready for publication in September…

I heard that too and it’s a bit upsetting. I really have high hopes so hopefully she can pull it together!

Gorgeous cover! This is yet another series that I’ve intended to start, but haven’t yet! I got Vicious for Christmas, but there just hasn’t been time to crack it open yet. Fingers crossed it happens soon (at least this year!)

Hey, at least you have a copy! I would love to reread it someday, maybe I will before Vengeful comes out.

  3. I… haven’t read Vicious yet.. It was on my TBR since the day I discovered the author and that book, but since that new edition is coming out soon, I got it pre-ordered, as well as its awesomely-sounding-and -beautiful sequel!!! Can’t wait to join the bandwagon!!! 😀 😀

I hope you love it, Lashaan. It’s one of my top favorite books EVER. And I too will be preordering both books!

I think a lot of people missed Vicious because it was her first book (I believe). Hopefully this new book and rerelease will introduce this book to new readers.

  4. Fantastic pick! I’m really looking forward to reading this! Just read Vicious in January for the first time and I can’t believe it took me so long to pick it up! I hope you’ll enjoy it and that it lived up to our expectations, because they are high! 🙂

    • Tammy

Yes, very high expectations! I’m glad you enjoyed Vicious, I’m going to have to do a reread soon:-)

It’s the same artist who did A Darker Shade of Magic, that’s why it looks so similar. I do like the new covers!

  5. I feel guilty because I still haven’t read Schwab – I have bought some of her books, and even been to see her at a reading – hopefully I’m carving out a bit of time each month for some of my own books.

Hey, it’s hard to get to every book you want to read. I have plenty of authors I feel bad about!

  6. I missed out on reading Vicious – but it piqued my interest at the time. I look forward to hearing what you think of this one. I hope you enjoy it, Tammy:)

  7. OHHHHH!!! I LIKE I LIKE ALOT! Great pic — and the pairings up there in the blurb are exactly perfect to get me hooked into this !

    • Tammy

I love these covers too! I like that they match, and I think it was a smart move, especially since there will be a whole new audience for Vicious, readers who missed it the first time.

  8. Oh, AWESOME pick, Tammy!! 🙂 🙂 That cover is just…..STUNNING!! And the plot sure sounds riveting!

I’m glad the cover of “Vicious” has gotten a makeover. Sometimes cover makeovers are actually an improvement, although this is not always the case.

Thanks for sharing!! I’m adding both of these to my ever-growing TBR!! Thanks as well for commenting on my “Can’t Wait Wednesday” post!! Cheers!! <3 🙂

The covers are really eye-catching, right? I think the publisher is really trying to reign in new readers with this campaign.
