Over-Booked [78] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

So many great surprises arrived these past two weeks, and I’m looking forward to each and every one:-D I’m in the middle of watching Season 2 of Stranger Things (I know, I’m so behind everyone else!) but I thought I’d take a break and share the books that have arrived at my house in the last two weeks:

Physical books:

Another surprise package from Big Honcho Media and Disney Hyperion arrived a few days ago, and wow was there a bunch of sparkly glitter in the package! In fact I’m still cleaning it up, lol. Huge thanks for a copy of Unearthed by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. I’m so excited to start their new series!

I was thrilled to get a paperback copy of Kill Creek by Scott Thomas from Inkshares. I had requested it some time ago and I figured my request had been lost in the shuffle. But here it is! And I can’t wait to read it, hopefully soon.

I received an invite for the blog tour for Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian (although it’s not til April!) and quickly agreed. Not only is this one of the most beautiful covers I’ve seen in a while, but the story sounds great. Big thanks to Random House Children’s Books!

A few years ago I read Darkness Brutal by Rachel A. Marks, and then I met her at Comic Con that year. She was super nice, and when she contacted me out of the blue recently to see if I wanted to read her upcoming Fire and Bone, of course I said yes! Huge thanks to Rachel and Skyscape for the review copy.

I received a surprise finished copy of Weave a Circle Round by Kari Maaren from Tor, which I’m super excited to start. This book has already been released but I’m going to make time for it before the end of the year for sure. Thanks Tor!

Big thanks to Tor Books for a copy of the third book in Leanna Renee Hieber’s series, The Eterna Solution. I believe I have the whole series now (thank you Tor!) so perhaps a binge read is in order?

Another book I requested months ago arrived, and not only did Talos send me a beautiful finished hardcover of The Naked World by Eli K.P. William, but they sent me THREE COPIES. Hmmm, I have to say that’s never happened to me before! I’m sure their intent was for me to host a giveaway, so I plan to do just that. I’m hoping to squeeze The Naked World into Sci Fi Month in the next two weeks, so if I am successful, I will be giving away the extra copies as well:-) Thank you Talos!

Saga has been surprising me a lot lately, and this week a book arrived that I’m SUPER excited about: Barbary Station by R.E. Stearns. Touted as “Lesbians in space,” I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about this book. Thanks to Saga Press!

And I actually won a giveaway, a copy of Autonomous by Annalee Newitz from Jean Book Nerd. I’ve seen some mixed reviews but I’m still interested in checking this out sometime. Thanks Jean and Tor!

Finally, two very cool books arrived courtesy of Wunderkind PR, Harper Design and Saga Press. First, Star Wars Stormtroopers: Beyond the Armor by Ryder Windham and Adam Bray. I’ll be featuring this soon as a Sci Fi Month feature/review, so check back soon!

And this gorgeous book called Above the Timberline by Gregory Manchess looks pretty awesome. Not only is it full of beautiful artwork, but there is a story that goes along with it. Look for a review soon!

Digital review copies:

A bunch of new Saga Press titles popped up on NetGalley and I grabbed three of them, I couldn’t resist! First, the next book in Chuck Wendig’s Miriam Black series, The Raptor & the Wren. Next, a recent WOW pick that I’m SUPER excited about Pride and Prometheus by John Kessel. And finally, a cool sounding anthology called Robots Vs. Fairies, edited by Dominik Parisien and Navah Wolfe. I seriously will need a physical copy at some point because this is one gorgeous cover!

I’d love to know if you’re planning on reading any of these!

Yes! Season 2 is sooo good. I just wish it were longer. I’m very curious to hear how you like Barbary Station!

I actually need to START the Wendig series, since I skipped the first three books and went right to book four. Oops.

I’d love to get a copy of Above the Timberline at some point. The artwork looks amazing, and I’m curious to see what the story is like.

It’s really beautiful artwork, and I agree! I’m curious to see how he incorporates the art with the story.

  2. Surprise goodies are the best! I loved the Unearthed package. Although… all of those stars went EVERYWHERE. It was a good thing I opened it over a white cardboard surface! Honestly though, I’m still picking stars off the carpet. :O I can’t wait to read the book though. I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

Have a great weekend, Tammy. =)

Ha ha, I opened mine without knowing what was inside, so I made a mess. But at least it was a sparkly mess!

  3. Haha, looks like you went all out with the Saga Press netgalley requests too! I practically had to sit on my hands so I wouldn’t go nuts and managed to stop just short of requesting the next Miriam Black book. I’m sure I will at some point though, after I get my stats under control again.

And I hope you enjoy Above the Timberline! My review will be up on Monday. It’s a quick read, but I think I could have spent hours just admiring the paintings 😀

The artwork is amazing, and I’ve just barely glanced at the book. I’m looking forward to diving into the story:-)

  4. Eeee! I loved season 2 of Stranger Things. Hope you loved it too! Oh my god, I got that Unearthed package too. I have this strange … not quite a fear of glitter but a strong distaste for it? I had to have my friend clean the stuff off, I couldn’t do it. LOL

Can’t wait to read your thoughts on Kill Creek! That one sounds gooood.
