Tammy’s Top Ten Books on My Fall 2015 TBR

TTT banner 2015 copy

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish, where they have a new top ten theme each week. Head on over and join in yourself, it’s fun! This week we’re taking a look at our Top Ten Fall 2015 books, and the way I interpret this is to list the books coming out in the months of September, October and November that I can’t wait to read. I sort of feel like some of this is a repeat from another recent top ten list, but oh well. Here they are, in order of release date:

The Traitor Baru Cormorant by Seth Dickinson. Released September 15th from Tor. I just received a surprise copy of this book from the publisher, and I couldn’t be more happy! I’ve been seeing glowing reviews all over the place. Has anyone read this yet?

Menagerie by Rachel Vincent. Releases September 29th from Mira. I’ve heard this book is dark. Very dark. 🙂

Gold Fame Citrus by Claire Vaye Watkins. Releases September 29th from Riverhead Books. A dystopian disguised as literary fiction? Yes please. I’ve pre-ordered this and I’m going to drop everything when it comes in.

Owl and the City of Angels by Kristi Charish. Releases October 5th from Pocket Star.  Kristi is so sweet, she contacted me to make sure I had been approved for her book on NetGalley. This series is so fun, I can’t wait to see what’s next:-)

Silver on the Road by Laura Anne Gilman. Releases October 6th from Saga Press. I know I’ve listed this in another “anticipating list,” but I can’t resist mentioning it again.

Carter & Lovecraft by Jonathan L. Howard. Releases October 20th from Thomas Dunne Books. The cover alone makes me want to read this, but the story sounds really good as well. I’ve been enjoying anything Lovecraft related lately, so I will most likely pre-order this.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Releases October 20th from Knopf Books for Young Readers. I know I’ve been talking about this book for MONTHS, and the release date is nearly here! This is one big, beautiful book.

After Alice by Gregory Maguire. Releases October 27th from William Morrow. So far I’ve had good luck with Alice retellings, let’s see if this one passes the test!

Our Lady of the Ice by Cassandra Rose Clarke. Releases October 27th from Saga Press. Yes, I really really can’t wait for this book:-)

Planetfall by Emma Newman. Releases November 3rd from Ace/Roc Books. This will be my first Emma Newman book, but most likely not my last.

I’d love to know if any of these are on your TBR lists!

Thanks Katrina, it’s so hard to get to everything in the Fall, because it’s such a book-heavy season. But I’m going to try!

  1. Menagerie and After Alice are also on my TBR. I’ve also heard that Menagerie was super dark and that naturally makes me really curious XD I’m also intrigued by After Alice cause some people seem to love while others seem to hate it. I’ve read only one book by the author and really enjoyed it so maybe I’ll like After Alice. Happy Fall reading 🙂

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews for After Alice, but Gregory Maguire’s books are really different, and he isn’t for everyone. I loved Wicked, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to enjoy his new book too.

  2. Yay for The Illuminae! It sounds like a crazy story, but crazy sounds good to me. 🙂 Also, Our Lady of the Ice wasn’t on my radar until you and Mogsy @ Bibliosanctum listed it on both of your TTT posts. So I might have to check it out now.

As for my own list (I didn’t do a TTT, but I have an idea of what I’ll read this season), I’m looking forward to reading Mackenzi Lee’s This Monstrous Thing, Anna-Marie McLemore’s The Weight of Feathers, and (granted I buy a copy during the fall) Rachel Caine’s Ink and Bone. I also want to catch up on some older books like Leigh Bardugo’s Ruin and Rising and Patrick Rothfuss’s The Name of the Wind.

I’m going to start This Monstrous Thing very soon, and I’m reading The Weight of Feathers right now and loving it! The Name of the Wind was sooo good, although it’s been years since I read it, and I didn’t like book two nearly as much.

  3. This is my first hearing of After Alice, but I’m going to have to put that one at the top. Then Planetfall, and, of course, Illuminae. I have to know what that book is like, and why the story is physically presented and told the way it is.

I hope to read Illuminae very soon, it’s a huge book, but a lot of it is graphics, so it shouldn’t take too long to read.

  4. Tammy V.

Illuminae looks really good. Many have liked it so far. Vincent’s book I want to try. I liked her Soul Screamers in the beginning but it got dull towards the end of the series for me.

  5. When I saw this topic, I just knew I had to jump in. It’s really amazing to me how we’re into the last quarter of the year but there are still so many high-anticipated books, the list I gave for TSH is almost a completely different list from the one I made for TTT today too, lol! WAY TOO MANY THINGS TO READ. I’m hoping to jump into The Traitor Baru Cormorant any day now, and I also just got sent a widget for Owl. Really hoping I can fit in Silver on the Road this fall but ahhh I have to limit myself somewhere. Also really excited to see Carter & Lovecraft on your list, I love that I’m not the only one eyeing that one! And yes also to Illuminae and Our Lady, which is on my list too because yes we have good taste 😉

  6. So many good books coming out this fall. I’ve heard mostly good things about The Traitor Baru Cormorant. It’s something I want to read but I’m afraid it’s gonna be painful.

Planetfall sounds interesting. Kameron Hurley describes it as “hell is other people” on her blog. Sounds like one of those we are trapped and have to get along stories. So on my list. 🙂

  7. Yep, lots to look forward to. I have a couple of these on my list too and I’m really looking forward to them, especially After Alice and of course the Kristi Charish book – I should have definitely had those two on my list.
Plus Menagerie – very dark – must add that to my wishlist.

  8. I have a few of these in my list as well – and ran out of space for the rest! We have very similar reading taste! (Planetfall is in my wish list. I haven’t seen very many people talking about that one just yet but it’s definitely on my radar!)
