What’s On My Plate – August 2015

On My Plate

It’s August, folks! Where the heck did July go?? August means back-to-school, so life is about to get crazy again (like it ever stopped!). I thought July was an epic month for new spec fiction releases, but August has it beat by a mile! My “to read” pile this month is Out. of. Control. It’s doubtful I’ll get to all of these, but I’m gonna try. In any case, there are SO MANY AMAZING AUGUST BOOKS to read, and I may have to cut my sleeping hours down just to fit everything in.

And for some reason, this is also going to be an epic month on this blog for giveaways. If you aren’t already following me, you may want to start, just so you don’t miss anything:-)

Here are the books I have lined up to read/review in August:

Zero World by Jason H. Hough. I started reading this at Comic Con, and then I had to stop because I had so many July books to read. It started with a bang, and hooked me right away. I can’t wait to get back to it!

Zeroes by Chuck Wendig. Continuing with our “zero” theme…I’ve been hearing raves about this, I’m so happy!

Last First Snow by Max Gladstone. I didn’t get this in time to review it in July, but I will be squeezing it in this month, since I love this series so much:-D

The House of Shattered Wings by Aliette de Bodard. One of my Ace Roc Star books, and I’ve been reading some awesome reviews! Can’t wait.

Updraft by Fran Wilde. I’ve had this copy for some time, and I’m so glad it’s almost at the top of the pile. Another book I’ve been hearing good things about!

Alice by Christina Henry. I got this from Ace as well, and I’m looking forward to seeing how Henry does Alice in Wonderland.

The Marriage of Opposites by Alice Hoffman. One of my very favorite authors! Not speculative fiction, but I know the story will be amazing.

The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness. This one has some mixed reviews, but I’m still anxious to check it out.

Dawnbreaker by Jay Posey. The conclusion to Jay’s Duskwalker trilogy. I’m a little intimidated by the page count, but I am curious to see how he’s going to wrap things up.

While You Were Gone by Amy K. Nichols. This is a companion novel to Now That You’re Here, and I’ve been told it’s fine to read this one first.

The Devil’s Woods by Brian Moreland. I’m looking forward to this highly rated (on Goodreads) horror novel.

Everybody Rise by Stephanie Clifford. Not my normal type of book at all, but sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered! This was a Goodreads win, so I want to make sure and review it in a timely manner.

King of the Bastards by Brian Keene. This will be my second Keene book, and I’m looking forward to seeing what else he can do.

Ex Machina: AVA Evolved by Jock and Alex Garland. Hopefully a quick one, this is an art book, so I’m hoping to fly through it fairly quickly.

Author events:

I’m helping promote Jay Posey’s Dawnbreaker this month, and I’ll have a guest post from him. Although my date hasn’t been scheduled yet, so you’ll see it here at some point.

Giveaways:

I went a little crazy and signed up for two hops this month. The Young Adult Giveaway Hop starts on August 14th, and the Clear Your Shelf Giveaway Hop starts on August 20th. The YA Hop will be international, but the Clear Your Shelf hop will be US only, due to the fact that I’ll be mailing a box of books from my shelves (Hint: this is a San Diego Comic Con book box!)

And right in the middle of those two will be my monthly Book Review Giveaway. But…this month I’m doing something different. EPIC even! I’m celebrating FOUR YEARS of blogging, and so I’m having an EPIC GIVEAWAY. I won’t tell you what yet, so make sure to stop back on August 15th for all the deets!

That’s my month! I’d love to know if you’re reading any of these books too:-D
