Waiting on Wednesday is one of only two memes I participate in, and it’s my favorite, because I, like most avid readers, have a never-ending list of books I’m “waiting” on. This year I wanted to look back on all the WoW picks I’ve made in 2014, and see how many I actually got around to reading. (This idea was inspired by Nathan at Fantasy Review Barn, who flat-out told me in a comment that it would be interesting to see how many WoW books I’ve read—thanks, Nathan!) Of course, this idea does have its flaws. Obviously, most of the WoW picks for the last five months or so haven’t been released yet, and as a result, of course I haven’t read them (except for those I have ARCs of).
Due to the overwhelming task of linking up each title for you, I didn’t do that. Sorry! Enjoy this gorgeous feast for your eyes, and if you’re so inclined, you can visit Goodreads and look them up. So here they are, all my WoWs from 2014, in order:
And now for the stats:
Total Wow Posts in 2014: 48
Total number of Wows that haven’t yet been released: 27
Total Books Read: 9 (!!) (3 YA, 6 Adult)
Total finished books I have copies of and plan to read: 8
Total ARCs I have copies of (so far) but aren’t released yet: 6
Total adult Wows: 26
Total YA Wows: 21
I’m not sure exactly what all these stats mean, but in any event, it’s fun to look back at the books that caught my eye this year, whether I was able to read them or not. And as I compiled this list, I heard myself saying more than once: “Oh yeah, I forgot about that book!” Which is a good thing, because now I can make an effort to go back and read them. One thing I learned for sure, I’m going to try to do better in 2015, and beat my embarrassingly low nine books read out of forty-eight!
Have you ever counted the WoW picks you’ve read?
Oh too cool! I even kinda remember making that comment. I don’t think 9 is too bad, reading plans change all the time as other shinies come in or bad reviews but us off some.
You made that comment at least six months ago, but it’s been rattling around in my brain ever since:-D
Hahaha that comment is just so Nathan. Personally I think 9 out of 48 is probably better than you might think…I don’t think I’ve read that many of my WoW picks! It can be hard to keep a handle on all the new titles releasing when you want to read older books as well.

I still want to read more next year:-)
I didn’t do any calculating, but just browsing through all my Waiting on Wednesdays, I see I actually have a pretty good track record! It appears there’s a “delay” of about 5 months though. Almost everything featured in my WoWs prior to July have been read with the exception of maybe one or two books. It makes sense, I do need the time to catch up with the new releases as they come out! And like you said, a lot of the books featured since the summer haven’t come out yet, or I have the ARC and I’m just holding them til closer to release.

That’s pretty good stats! I think maybe I just change my mind about books sometimes, or just forget about them:-D
At your suggestion, I counted up my WoWs. I posted 47 and only read 9 of them. I still have more arcs and one finished copy to read. I actually read 46 books this year, just not all my WoWs. It was interesting to see. Thanks for the idea.

Oh good, we’re about the same! I’m glad you counted yours as well:-)
And there I thought you do Waiting on Wednesday posts for books you absolutely crazy about. The type of book you preorder as soon as it is possible to do so and then wait for the mailman. Which is, why I never participated. I guess, I have to rethink this approach.

I’m not sure if I have read any of my WoW type books >.> It’d be interesting to go back and look though :D. One thing I’m surprised by is how early some of the covers came out, like A Darker Shade of Magic!
