Waiting on Wednesday (106) STILETTO by Daniel O’Malley

WOW new copy

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Breaking the Spine, and is a great way to share upcoming books that you’re excited about with other bloggers and readers. Check out the link to see other WoW posts. This week I stumbled across this book, the second in a series. It’s been over two years since the first book was published, but I loved it and I know I’ll love this one too. I tried to find a larger image but this is the biggest one I could locate:

StilletoStiletto (The Checquy Files #2) by Daniel O’Malley. Releases in February 2015 from Little, Brown and Company. The Rook was a fantastic read, and I can’t wait to revisit O’Malley’s world. Here’s the story description from Goodreads:

In this spirited sequel, The Rook returns to clinch an alliance between deadly rivals and avert epic—and slimy—supernatural war.

When secret organizations are forced to merge after years of enmity and bloodshed, only one person has the fearsome powers—and the bureaucratic finesse—to get the job done. Facing her greatest challenge yet, Rook Myfanwy Thomas must broker a deal between two bitter adversaries:

The Checquy—the centuries-old covert British organization that protects society from supernatural
threats, and…
The Grafters—a centuries-old supernatural threat.

But as bizarre attacks sweep London, threatening to sabotage negotiations, old hatreds flare. Surrounded by spies, only the Rook and two women, who absolutely hate each other, can seek out the culprits before they trigger a devastating otherworldly war.

STILETTO is a novel of preternatural diplomacy, paranoia, and snide remarks, from an author who “adroitly straddles the thin line between fantasy, thriller, and spoof” (Booklist).

  1. That image is pretty big, actually!

I thought The Rook was interesting yet inconsistent yet lots of fun… might read Stiletto; think it’ll depend on the reviews.

  2. I’ve heard mixed reviews about The Rook, but one of my best friends in the world loved it and I think I trust his reviews more than most. I still have it on my TBR, but that’s interesting to know it has a sequel coming out, I always thought it was a stand alone!

From what i read of those who read the Rook, you either loved it or disliked how it was wrote. Myself, i loved the main character and the whole book was fun and made me cheer for her(Myfanwy). I know only what the Stiletto intro has said, regardless, i will most likely purchase the book, just based on the first book.

the Rook was one of my favorite books of 2013 and I have been waiting with bated breath for news of the sequel… I’m so psyched to see the cover art and cannot wait for it to come out! it’s inspired me to listen to the Rook again (has to be the 7th time at least.) it’s a staple of my audible library!

Head of Zeus has been the british publisher all along, and the cover design follows the cover of the first book “The rook” in it’s UK edition
