The nitty-gritty: A unique take on body horror, I enjoyed parts of Transmuted but some of it was too over-the-top for me. Transmuted is getting a lot of love from the horror community, and so I was eager to try it out. Unfortunately, this ended up being a mixed bag for me, and. I believe […]
The nitty-gritty: A creepy, disturbing tale perfect for fans of twisty, psychological horror. I couldn’t put it down! All storytellers are liars, but Catriona Ward is a particularly good one. I have been lied to in the best possible way and I enjoyed every single moment. The Last House on Needless Street is surrounded by […]
The nitty-gritty: Grady Hendrix takes a stab at the slasher movie trope and gives readers a high stakes, fast paced thriller with lots of clever movie references and some very resourceful final girls. “O NO—I’m being stalked by an unusually slow killer armed with a ridiculously impractical weapon. Eek! It’s a boat hook! A machete! […]
The nitty-gritty: A dark, twisty tale full of surprising connections, unexpected horrors and nuanced characters, The Book of Accidents is a must read. Just as the trees loomed over the house, the house seemed to loom over Nate. He had a vertiginous moment where it felt like the red front door would whip open and […]

She thought of Kate, and finally understood her sister’s misery outside of Harlow. All the Jarvis girls had done was trade one brand of fear for another, and the fear’s beating […]
The nitty-gritty: Henry’s latest is a fast-paced suspense story with some very dark elements. I had a lot of fun with this book! After having some issues with Christina Henry’s The Ghost Tree, I was a little worried going into Near the Bone. But it ended up working a lot better for me, I think […]
The nitty-gritty: I loved the 90s/New Orleans/vampire mythology vibe, but the pacing was inconsistent and the final reveals were too over-the-top for me. Mina and the Undead has a lot going for it: the New Orleans setting (with plenty of references to Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire), a creepy horror mansion with lots of […]
The nitty-gritty: Meticulously crafted and mind-bendingly creepy, Whisper Down the Lane is a riveting page-turner that’s hard to put down. Whisper Down the Lane is an extremely unsettling, paranoia-fueled psychological thriller that takes its ideas from some real life events and twists them into something new and horrifying. I wasn’t sure what to expect from […]
The nitty-gritty: Fancy some Eldritch nightmares? Then look no further. The Gulp is the perfect combination of weird, brutal and creepy. The Gulp has the honor of being my first horror book of 2021, and folks, it was a good one! Alan Baxter is a well-known Aussie horror author, and I had not heard of […]
The nitty-gritty: An ambitious genre mash-up that tackles such diverse topics as poverty, imaginary friends, space exploration and family bonds. We Hear Voices caught me off guard, but in a good way. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I didn’t realize this was science fiction/dystopian when I started reading it. It looks like […]
