The nitty-gritty: A short but powerful tale of the dark emotional lives of a family, Ormeshadow is an exceptional novella with the promise of magic just around the corner. I had no idea what to expect when I started Ormeshadow, but I have to say this was a surprise of the best kind. Priya Sharma […]
The nitty-gritty: A sinister, blood-soaked story steeped in myth and darkness. Monster, Monster, Monster, Johann said to himself, the first half a kiss, the second a hiss. I wanted to squeeze in one more review this month, so I decided to grab one of my September novellas in order to make that happen. And wow, […]
The nitty-gritty: A thrilling, fast-paced beginning lost steam for me near the end, but up until about the three-quarter mark I really had a lot of fun with this book. I enjoyed the hell out of this book—up to a point. And then things really started to go wrong for me. It’s almost as if […]
The nitty-gritty: Exciting action and relatable characters make this futuristic look at corporate greed a ton of fun from start to finish. I got to meet Rob Hart at San Diego Comic Con, which made me even more excited to read his book. Rob put a cool stamp each attendee’s ARC and filled in their […]
The nitty-gritty: I adored the magic system in this story, but I wasn’t as excited about the plot. I have such mixed feelings about this book, which makes me a little sad. From the moment I saw the magical cover, I knew I wanted to read The Gossamer Mage, but I have to admit I […]
The nitty-gritty: A thrilling story set in space with elements of horror and mystery, well-drawn characters, and even a cautionary message or two. Kali Wallace, where have you been hiding? Salvation Day is Wallace’s adult debut, if I’m not mistaken. She’s written for middle grade and YA audiences in the past, which might be the […]
The nitty-gritty: Decadent writing and lush imagery make this a feast for the senses, but as a story it didn’t quite work for me, I’m sad to say. I’m afraid this book and I got off on the wrong foot. Otherwise how do you explain the fact that every review I’ve seen has been a […]
The nitty-gritty: Full of strange magic, secrets and lies, a compelling mystery and some emotional soul searching, Magic For Liars was a surprise in more ways than one. Magic For Liars was not the book I was expecting it to be, and I finished reading it with the feeling that it was exactly the book […]
The nitty-gritty: Henry’s latest is a post apocalyptic fairy tale with teeth, a thrilling, brutal and emotional tale of survival with surprises around every corner and a heroine who is determined to survive, no matter what. Christina Henry is one of my favorite authors and I always look forward to her new books, so I […]
The nitty-gritty: A twisty tale that starts slow but increases the tension as it goes along, skillfully crafted and guaranteed to make you think. I have to admit I accepted a review copy of Snakeskins based on this cover. And I was lucky enough to get a finished paperback, and let me tell you it’s […]
