Bat Out of Hell was one of those books that ended up in a much different place than it started, at least for me. The story gets off to a strong start as we witness a horrific outbreak of an Ebola-like virus in Indonesia, a virus that kills 100% of people who contract it only hours […]
Happy Fall, everyone! Unfortunately for those of us in California (and no doubt other western states), Fall has yet to make an appearance. A quick check of the temps this week shows highs in the 90s! All I want is to be able to wear jeans and a hoodie, I mean really, is that too […]
The nitty-gritty: A sprawling adventure story filled with airships, magic crystals, military maneuvers and talking cats. Yes, I said talking cats! Despite the fact that it took me two weeks to read The Aeronaut’s Windlass, I had so much fun. This was my first Jim Butcher book, and I can see why he’s so popular. […]
The nitty-gritty: A poignant and magical tale of feuding families and forbidden love, perfectly written. Embers clung to the edges, dense as a band of stars. The fabric burned and thinned. Over-Booked is my every-other-week book haul post, where I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves and The Sunday Post. I love to share the new books that make their way into my home, and I’d love to know if you plan on reading them too. So, yeah. I’m super behind in my September reading, partly because I’m […]
The nitty-gritty: A great start to an exciting new venture in storytelling, all wrapped up in a compact urban fantasy package. She’d met people on this very train who told her with overwhelming conviction that they were the product of genetic experimentation by the United States government using alien DNA, and they’d built a prototype […]
Hey readers, I’ve got something different and cool for you today! I’ve been a big fan of Pushkin Press, a UK publisher that puts out unique literary fiction, and now Pushkin is venturing out into vintage crime fiction with their new imprint, Pushkin Vertigo. I’m excited to have a review copy of The Tokyo Zodiac […]
