The nitty-gritty: A super fun read with a cool concept, well drawn characters, and some social commentary for those who like depth with their action. This might be the quickest I have ever read a book! I got through Spliced in just over a twenty-four hour time period, mostly because I stayed home sick from […]
Sparked started out very strong, and I really enjoyed the first half of the story. But unfortunately, around the halfway mark, things started to go downhill for me, and it ended up being a typical YA paranormal that reminded me of so many other stories I’ve read. Which is sad, because I’ve had great luck […]
The nitty-gritty: A stylish and atmospheric tale, part ghost story, part psychological thriller, that sneaks up on you slowly. The creepy mirror was full-size and seemed unnaturally enormous hanging on the wall that way and reflecting only darkness. Framed in antique scrollwork, the glass within was pitch-black, and there was no image beyond the impression […]

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and The Sunday Post at The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. October has been kicking my butt. I’m so behind in reading and also visiting fellow bloggers and leaving comments, so I apologize if I […]
The nitty-gritty: An action-packed and thrilling story that’s got something for everyone: terrifying monsters, stolen children, evil scientists, and of course, a circus sideshow full of dangerous creatures. Welcome to the show! “Run?” asked Annie. “Run where? The trees close in on all sides. If it’s the woods I need to fear, my fate is […]
Halloween is upon us! For the next few weeks, I’ve decided to highlight my most recent favorite scary tales, and this week I’m looking at ghost stories! It seems I haven’t actually read a lot of ghost stories recently, so some of these picks may seem unusual. However, ghosts play a part in each book, […]
The nitty-gritty: Strange and horrific, I loved this novella, even though it’s still giving me nightmares. Once, while they are sweating together, a molly appears in the doorway and joins them. It does not go bad while the three of them make love, and Molly kills it with regret and an ice pick the next […]
Brad Abraham’s debut novel Magicians Impossible is making a splash in the SFF community, having just been published by Thomas Dunne Books, and I’m super excited to have Brad visiting today. If you missed my review, you can catch it here. He’s also kindly offering a signed copy of Magicians Impossible, so stick around for the […]
Halloween is upon us! For the next few weeks, I’ve decided to highlight my most recent favorite scary tales, and this week I’m looking at vampire stories! I find my favorite vampire tales are gritty, complex and violent, and I especially love stories that bring something new to the table. These are all books I’ve […]
The nitty-gritty: Luminous and magical, The Rules of Magic is Alice Hoffman at her best. Today everything smelled earthy, the rich scent of mulch and decaying leaves and roots. It was an ending and a beginning, for the month itself was like a gate. October began as a golden hour and ended with Samhain, the […]
