The nitty-gritty: I loved the world-building and some of the characters, but the MC Tomas didn’t completely win me over. Reviews for Priest of Bones seem to be all over the map, so I was very curious to see where I would fit in. And the answer to that seems to be somewhere in the […]
We’re just about a week away from Halloween, and I’m celebrating a little early so that I can share some Halloween spirit from one of my favorite authors, Kristi Charish! Kristi is the author of The Adventures of Owl urban fantasy series, as well as the immensely entertaining and readable The Voodoo Killings. And I […]
The nitty-gritty: Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Stranger Things in this addictively creepy tale of evil entities, friendships and girl power. This is my first Claire Legrand book, believe it or not, but it won’t be my last. I had a great time with Sawkill Girls, a young adult horror story that draws its strength […]

The nitty-gritty: An eerie and atmospheric Gothic ghost story with layers upon layers of secrets, gorgeously written. The Silent Companions was a wonderful break from review books this month, especially since it’s October and I couldn’t have picked a more perfect scary read. Wow, this book surprised me! I have to admit it takes a […]
The nitty-gritty: A unique combination of elements comes together in this lush, fairy tale-inspired story. The Sisters of the Winter Wood is a beautifully written story with elements I loved and others that didn’t work quite as well, so I guess you could say this was sort of a mixed bag for me. I’m pushing […]

The nitty-gritty: Gritty, fast paced and full of humor, C.T. Phipps takes the tried and true vampire genre and gives it a unique spin. A good half of the thugs present pulled out pistols, crossbows, swords, and bats with silver spikes, and one guy grew what look to be Wolverine’s claws. “Damn,” David said, surveying the […]
The nitty-gritty: Lots of potential, but unfortunately, this story was too problematic for my taste. Well, I think you can tell by my rating that A Winter’s Promise just didn’t work for me. I had high hopes for this book, which is apparently a huge success in the author’s native country of France, and has […]
