What’s On My Plate – October 2024

October is another out of control month when it comes to new releases, and while I’m happy there are so many books I’d love to read, I’m sad that I’ll never be able to squeeze them all in (maybe half if I’m really focused). I was hoping to squeeze in a TBR Jar read this month, but that probably won’t happen. Or maybe it will, we’ll see how my mood goes. Here are the books I’d love to read this month:

If I Stopped Haunting You by Colby Wilkins. This might be the first book on the list, but to be honest, it’s pretty far down priority wise, mostly due to some very low Goodreads ratings. Let me know if you’ve read it!

Model Home by Rivers Solomon. It’s been several years since I’ve read a book by Solomon, and I thought this sounded really good. Plus, I’m in the mood for a haunted house story.

This Cursed House by Del Sandeen. This is a Southern gothic horror story set in the 1960s, and I’m very excited to read it.

The Eater of Flies by Richard Gadz. I’ve read one other book by Gadz and was really impressed, which is why I requested his latest.

The Queen by Nick Cutter. This will be my first Nick Cutter book and I’m both nervous and excited, lol.

The Nightmare Before Kissmass by Sara Raasch. A rom-com about the Prince of Halloween and the Prince of Christmas? I really need to read this!

New Lease on Death by Olivia Blacke has some mixed reviews, but I’m still curious to check out this author.

It Will Only Hurt for a Moment by Delilah S. Dawson. I’m still waiting to read a Dawson book that hit the highs of The Violence, and hopefully this will be that book.

Run by Blake Crouch. I’m a huge Crouch fan, and this was a spur of the moment request on NetGalley. Hopefully I’ll have time to read it!

Good Dogs by Brian Asman is a werewolf story and perfect for October. This is a debut so it should be interesting.

American Rapture by C.J. Leede is one of my most anticipated October releases. It has amazing reviews so far, and if this is anything like Leede’s last book, it’s going to be a wild ride!

The Book of Witching by C.J. Cooke. From one amazing C.J. to another, this is my other most anticipated book of the month!

Memorials by Richard Chizmar. I’m really looking forward to this as well. Appalachian horror usually works well for me:-)

All the Hearts You Eat by Hailey Piper. I own a few of Piper’s books but I haven’t actually read one yet. Hopefully this will be the first.

Dark Space by Rob Hart and Alex Segura. After his last book, Assassins Anonymous, I will pick up anything Hart writes.

The Hollow and the Haunted by Camilla Raines. This is a rare YA pick, and I have a feeling I’m going to love it:-)

You Better Watch Out by James S. Murray and Darren Wearmouth. I’ve read a different book by these authors and had a lot of fun with it. This is a Christmas themed thriller and it sounds like fun!

The Black Hunger by Nicholas Pullen. This is a horror debut that sounds very dark. I’m so curious!

The Narrows by Ronald Malfi. Titan Books is bringing back some of Malfi’s older books, and I couldn’t be happier.

The City in Glass by Nghi Vo. I’m a big Nghi Vo fan, and I can’t wait to start this.

Odd Spirits by S.T. Gibson. This lovely little book is the prequel story of two of the characters from Evocation. I’ve very much looking forward to it, despite some mixed reviews.

Last but not least, On Vicious Worlds by Bethany Jacobs is a highly anticipated sequel. I’ve seen some stellar reviews already!

Let me know if you plan to read any of these books:-D

  1. How many interesting books!! I am envying you “The Nightmare Before Kissmas”! I really want to read that one! And today I hope to start “On Vicious Worlds”!! I am soooo looking forward to that one!!

  2. I’m not surprised that October is a busy book month for you, given your love of horror. Hopefully you’ll find some new favourites with so much on offer. Out of these I’m most curious about Book Of Witching having loved The Lighthouse Witches, The City In Glass (which I saw a lovely review of recently) & The Black Hunger. I hope you have a wonderful October and that the two you highlighted as your most anticipated live up to your expectations
