Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Three surprise cover reveals spotted last week, take a look!
The Staircase in the Woods by Chuck Wendig. Releases in April 2025 from Del Rey. A new Chuck Wendig! I was so happy to see not only the book announcement, but the cover reveal as well. Wendig never disappoints, and even though this is a trope I’ve seen a lot lately (childhood friends return years later to solve a mystery), I cannot wait!
1998: A punk band is formed by Lily Lawlor and Drake Morgan. Drake inspires faith in some. Fear in others. Lily is a believer.
1999: A Battle of the Bands ends in a riot that claims the lives of nine teenagers.
2010: At the height of her pop punk fame, Lily walks into a police station and confesses to murder.
Now: For years, the band has refused to talk to the press about the night of the riot, Lily’s confession, or anything to do with Drake. It’s been over a decade, but Lily has finally agreed to an interview. And the band is following her lead.
What follows is a startling oral history, a story of prophecy, death, and apocalypse. A story about love and love lost. A story about the antichrist. Maybe it’s all true. Maybe none if it is.
Either way, this is their story. And they’re sticking to it.
My Ex, the Antichrist by Craig DiLouie. Releases in summer 2025 from Run For It (Orbit Books). Orbit just announced a new horror imprint called Run For It, and of course yours truly is over the moon about the announcement! The book isn’t on Goodreads yet, so I’m linking to the article on the Orbit website. You can also check out two other horror books coming out from Run For It, although they don’t have covers yet.
“The Incandescent is the grown-up answer to the magical boarding school tale, a glorious shout of vindication for those of us whose necks hurt in the morning now and for anyone who has ever worked in education. But it’s also, to put it simply, a really bloody good story. Every book Emily Tesh writes is a magic trick, and this is no exception: with one hand it delights and entertains you, and with the other it’s slowly unfolding a set of huge feelings and ideas to illuminate the underside of your mind. Fantastic in every sense of the word.” — Freya Marske, author of A MARVELLOUS LIGHT
The Incandescent by Emily Tesh. Releases in June 2025 from Orbit. This is super exciting, especially since Tesh just won a Hugo award for Best Novel! There isn’t a blurb yet, so I used the quote from Freya Marske on Goodreads. But I cannot wait!
“even though this is a trope I’ve seen a lot lately (childhood friends return years later to solve a mystery), I cannot wait!”
I love that trope! Thanks for putting the book on my radar (can you believe I’ve never read Wendig?)…plus I’m usually cover-blind to an extent, but OOOOOH THAT COVER.

His books are sooo good, especially his horror books!
I’m thrilled at the prospect of The Incandescent – Some Desperate Glory is right up there as one of the best reads of 2023 for me. So I’m delighted we’ve another book from her! Thank you for sharing.
I need to catch up with Some Desperate Glory now that her new book is on the horizon:-)
I’ve somehow never read a book by Emily Tesh but I’ve heard good things and this one definitely has the potential to be intriguing. I can’t say much given how vague the premise is at the moment but I love that it mentions it being the adult answer to a magical boarding school.
I wish the full blurb were available, but it’s something to look forward to:-)
I’m looking forward to all of these! Very excited about Orbit’s new horror imprint and the release line up looked great
Rebecca @ Powder & Page recently posted…Can’t Wait Wednesday: The Wind Weaver by Julie Johnson
Me too! I love that they followed in Tor’s footsteps to create a horror line:-)
Okay, so I just had to add the DiLouie book, which by the way has the best title ever, and the Wending book to my TBR. Looks like there is lots of good reading ahead!
I love that title too:-)
The Emily Tesh book looks good! I enjoyed her sci-fi book that won the award, but admit it wasn’t a 5-star read for me. It’ll be interesting to see how the new book compares to her sci-fi one.
I haven’t read Some Desperate Glory yet but I have a copy. Now I’m excited about both books:-)
OK, these all look amazing! I’m down for any new Craig DiLouie book, and the Chuck Wending looks fantastic. Very curious about the third book too. Great picks!
Thanks! It was a banner week for reveals and announcements:-)
I had a feeling The Staircase in the Woods would be on your post this week. I really want to read it myself. I’m fascinated by staircases in woods!
The story idea is definitely intriguing!
I think I need all three of these. The Staircase in the Woods reminds me that I need to rewatch Channel Zero season 3 Butcher’s Block!
I need all three too, I wish they weren’t so far away:-)
I am SO excited for all of these! I’m also really in love with the cover for Emily Tesh’s book, it’s so beautiful. And the blurb alone makes me excited!
Adult dark academy sounds so good, right? I can’t wait:-)
Won’t read any of these, but the first cover is so gorgeous! Have fun!

Thanks Wendy, I love that cover too:-)
I’ll be on the lookout for the Emily Tesh book for sure.
I want to read the blurb!
The Staircase in the Woods, my first time hearing about it but I want to read that one. Cool cover and I’ve enjoyed everything by Wendig I’ve read so far.
He always comes up with cool ideas. I can’t wait:-)
GAH I have never needed anything more than The Staircase in the Woods!! THANK YOU for sharing, Idk how I missed this announcement but YAY! I am so excited! The Incandescent is the one more up my alley, and it sounds so good! But I am mighty intrigued by My Ex, The Atichrist! And the first book has a beautiful cover!! Thanks for sharing them!
I’m excited we’re getting a dark academia story from Emily Tesh:-)
My aching morning neck is ready for this Tesh book, def putting it on my radar!
It’s going to be so good:-)
Say all that you want byt My ex, the Antichrist is an amazing title!
It really is, and it makes me so curious:-)
Books about a group of friends who end up in some messed up situation always sound intriguing. And I’ve read a couple other Emily Tesh books, I hadn’t heard about this new one yet!
