2024 Reading Challenges – Second Quarter Update

It’s mid-year (sort of), so it’s time for a reading challenge check in! You can refer to my original challenge post at this link for more details. Here is how my challenges currently stand:

1. 2024 Goodreads goal:

This is as of the end of June, and I’m exactly where I was last year at this time. I’m hoping to hit 100 books so half way there is about right:-)

2. Bookforager’s Picture Prompt Bingo:

I only found two more prompts this quarter, but I knew this was going to be the hardest challenge, so I’m not too surprised. I do have some upcoming reads that I’m keeping in mind for a few of these, so my next check in should look better.

A healed shoe decorated with a bow =

A microscope =

A partially unrolled scroll and pen = A Letter to the Luminous Deep by Sylvie Cathrall (the two many characters converse through hand written letters)

A land snail =

An old Roman coin =

A fern plant = The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett (ferns are an integral part of the setting)

A simple crown = The Serpent & the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent (“Crown” in the series title)

An armillary sphere =

A seashell = Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt (ocean setting)

A cannon on a gun carriage = The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden (set during WWI)

A harp =

Two hands making a shadow puppet dog =

An old camera and tripod =

A dog (a very good doggo) =

A beehive = The Honey Witch by Sydney J. Shields (the main character raises honey bees)

Fluffy cumulonimbus clouds = Calypso by Oliver K. Langmead (clouds play a part in terraforming a new planet)

3. TBR Jar Challenge:

I managed to read one more TBR Jar book, which is something I guess? (Good Bad Girl). But I also read a book I purchased recently, The Devil and Mrs. Davenport, so even though it’s not part of the original list, it’s technically a non-review book.

4. Alphabet Reading Challenge:

I’ve added a few more books to the Alphabet Challenge, and it looks like I’m doing well, but I do have a bunch of challenging letters left. With six months to go, I’m hoping I can fill in most of these:-)

How are you doing with your 2024 reading goals so far?

  1. You’re doing really well with your reading challenges! I’m such a mood reader and tend to flit about unexpectedly with my reading so have stayed away from challenges, well aware that I’d quickly put myself under pressure to fulfil goals. I hope you are able to complete more of the gaps in the second half of the year with a slew of books that you absolutely love:)).

  2. Athena @ OneReadingNurse

I found a book the first year I did this called something like Xander Chase and the unicorn code I think Z was the one that tripped me up! These look like fun challenges though

  3. So I found you a 40k novel by Abnett for X, and a Kavenna novel called ‘Zed’ for Z. I feel like those should be the most difficult. You’re welcome;)

  4. I have a recommendation for an old Roman coin, if you haven’t found a book for that prompt yet. I think A Coin for the Ferryman by Megan Edwards. The genres are historical, science fiction and time travel. You might like it! 😀

  5. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader

I only have the Goodreads and audiobook challenges and I already reached my Goodreads challenge! You also are doing very well Tammy!

  6. Well done with all of your challenges. I’m not surprised that you didn’t get to many more TBR Jar picks given how many review books you’ve had over the last few months. Its amazing that you’re keeping up so wonderfully. And it’ll be interesting to see what you find for some of those picture challenges. The snail in particular is stumping me.

  7. Some of those may require more effort (or luck) than others but overall it looks like you’re doing pretty good for the year. Just checked my goodreads and I’m lagging quite a bit this year, only at 37%. 🙂
