Future Fiction #286 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Three new covers and three new exciting books, take a look:

A chilling historical horror novel set in the American west in 1912 following a Lutheran priest who transcribes the life of a vampire who haunts the fields of the Blackfeet reservation looking for justice.

A diary, written in 1912 by a Lutheran pastor is discovered within a wall. What it unveils is a slow massacre, a chain of events that go back to 217 Blackfeet dead in the snow. Told in transcribed interviews by a Blackfeet named Good Stab, who shares the narrative of his peculiar life over a series of confessional visits. This is an American Indian revenge story written by one of the new masters of horror, Stephen Graham Jones.

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. Releases in March 2025 from Saga Press. Oh wow, this sounds amazing. And I’m getting The Only Good Indian vibes, with the “American Indian revenge story” description. SGJ writing a vampire story?? I am super excited!

A fun, sci-fi romp where custodian – or space broom – Johnny Gomez teams up with smugglers and is thrust into an unforgettable adventure. Great read for fans of Stringers by Chris Panatier.

Everyone aboard Kilgore Station is living their best life. Everyone except for Johnny Gomez.

While humans, the augmented, and aliens of all shapes and sizes enjoy exotic cuisine on the dining deck, or gamble away their credits on the entertainment deck, Johnny is elbow-deep in oily, black, alien excrement. A ‘space broom’ custodian for the entire station.

This was obviously not the life Johnny dreamt of. Ten years ago, he travelled to Kilgore, the farthest space station in our solar system, in search of fortune like everyone else. Some people are just luckier than others.

Yet his meaningless, uneventful existence is immediately turned upside down when he happens upon a tiny glass data-chit, hidden amongst the alien poop he must clean up. Unbeknownst to him, every nefarious creature in the solar system will soon be after him to claim it for their own.

With the help of his augmented roommate, a pair of smugglers and a mysterious and beautiful stranger, Johnny fights off thugs and sails as fast as possible to earth’s moon, Luna, in effort to sell the chit to the Obinna Crime Syndicate. But with assassins and mobsters on their tail, the trip is anything but a cakewalk. And Luna itself proves to be nothing like a safe haven, when Johnny’s painful past finally catches up to him…

Space Brooms! by A.G. Rodriguez. Releases in March 2025 from Angry Robot. I mean, you gotta love a book title with an exclamation point in it! This sounds like a blast, and the retro cover is fantastic:-)

Unbearably tense, utterly propulsive, and studded with folklore and horror, Something in the Walls is perfect for anyone who loves Midsommar and The Haunting of Hill House.

Newly-minted child psychologist Mina has little experience. In a field where the first people called are experts, she’s been unable to get her feet wet. Instead she aimlessly spends her days stuck in the stifling heat wave sweeping across Britain, and anxiously contemplating her upcoming marriage to careful, precise researcher Oscar. The only reprieve from her small, close world is attending the local bereavement group to mourn her brother’s death from years ago. That is, until she meets journalist Sam Hunter at the grief group one day. And he has a proposition for her.

Alice Webber is a thirteen year old girl who claims she’s being haunted by a witch. Living with her family in their crowded home in the remote village of Banathel, Alice’s symptoms are increasingly disturbing, and money is tight. Taking this job will give Mina some experience; Sam will get the scoop of a lifetime; and Alice will get better, Mina is sure of it.

But instead of improving, Alice’s behavior becomes increasingly inexplicable and intense. The town of Banathel has a deep history of superstition and witchcraft. They believe there is evil in the world. They believe there are ways of…dealing with it. And they don’t expect outsiders to understand.

As Mina races to uncover the truth behind Alice’s condition, the dark cracks of Banathel begin to show. Mina is desperate to understand how deep their sinister traditions go–and how her own past may be the biggest threat of all.

Something in the Walls by Daisy Pearce. Releases in February 2025 from Minotaur Books. The blurb is a little too complex for a blurb, lol, but I love the combination of folklore horror and witchcraft. Plus, every time I see a book cover with ripped old wallpaper, I’m immediately intrigued!

  1. Cover wise Something In The Walls is the one that first caught my eye (I suppose because it reminds me of Roanoke Girls and a few on my TBR like Hartwood Hall) and that does sound intriguing. I’m also really curious about the vampire one too though. Not only do I adore the genre but it sounds like an intriguing approach to it too. And it’s by an author that I know lots of people, including you, have greatly enjoyed

I’m sure Stephen Graham Jones has written a very different take on the vampire story, that’s one reason I’m so anxious to read it:-)

  2. Something in the Walls wasn’t that creepy until I looked at it a second time I love the synopsis for The Bison Hunter Hunter!

  3. The Buffalo Hunter Hunter sounds amazing??? Short synopsis but it definitely makes me want to read the book. I’ll have to put it on my wishlist for next year. I’ve already have so many great sounding titles on there. Can’t wait! Also would love to read Something in the Walls. The cover freaks me out!

  4. As ever, a classy and intriguing selection of books, Tammy – thank you! But the one shouting out to me is Space Brooms! I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for that offering:)).

I love the title of Space Brooms! And the exclamation point makes it even better;-)

  5. Stephen Graham Jones seems to be releasing a LOT of work. If I don’t try his stuff soon the back catalog will be so large I don’t dare start it.

    • Tammy

He’s a very fast writer! I’ve watch a few videos where he talks about the way he writes, and it only takes him a matter of weeks to get a first draft down. Very impressive!

  6. Buffalo hunter is the one calling to me, at least cover wise Tammy as I am not keen on horror! And the synopsis of Something in the Walls is chilling!
