Nine Upcoming Romantasies to Add to Your TBR

Last week I posted a list of upcoming cozy fantasies, and today I’m looking at fantasy romance—or romantasy—another popular subgenre that’s everywhere these days. I have to admit I’ve really enjoyed the romantasies I’ve read so far, and I hope to read a bunch of these as well. These are listed in order of release date, and I’m linking to Goodreads if you’d like to add them to your TBR:

Heavenbreaker by Sara Wolf. Release date: May 21st. Bravery isn’t what you do. It’s what you endure. The duke of the powerful House Hauteclare is the first to die. With my dagger in his back. He didn’t see it coming. Didn’t anticipate the bastard daughter who was supposed to die with her mother—on his order. He should have left us with the rest of the Station’s starving, commoner rubbish.”

The Wren in the Holly Library by K.A. Linde.  Release date: June 4th. Can you love the dark when you know what it hides? Some things aren’t supposed to exist outside of our imagination. Thirteen years ago, monsters emerged from the shadows and plunged Kierse’s world into a cataclysmic war of near-total destruction. The New York City she knew so well collapsed practically overnight.”

The Stars Are Dying by C.C. Peñaranda. Release date: July 10th. “In a world abandoned by the celestial guardians and left to suffer a tyrant king’s reign, all Astraea knows is safety in seclusion. With fragmented memories of only five years of her life, she’s determined to discover more about her past, even if that means fleeing the cruel arms that hold her safe from the wicked vampires rumored to roam the land.”

The Last One by Rachel Howzell Hall. Release date: July 23rd. “The Witcher meets N.K. Jemisin in a new series from NYT bestselling author Rachel Howzell Hall where a young woman learns the world is about to be destroyed by an evil, destructive force…herself.”

Bloodguard by Cecy Robson. Release date: October 8th. “One hundred years. Tens of thousands of gladiators. And today, only one will rise…Everything in the Kingdom of Arrow is a lie. Leith of Grey thought coming to this new land and volunteering to fight in the gladiator arena—vicious, bloodthirsty tournaments where only the strongest survive—would earn him enough gold to save his dying sister. He thought there was nothing left to lose.”

The Half King by Melissa Landers. Release date: November 19th. Beauty and the Beast meets The Sandman in this all-new, scorching-hot NA fantasy from Melissa Landers, in a world where the every first born child of the noble houses bears a curse… and only one heretic cult might hold the answers to breaking them.”

The Serpent and the Wolf by Rebecca Robinson. Release date: November 19th.Perfect for fans of Raven Kennedy and Thea Guanzon, Rebecca Robinson’s thrilling romantasy debut combines high-stakes political intrigue and a steamy, slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance.”

The Songbird & the Heart of Stone by Carissa Broadbent. Release date: November 19th. “New York Times bestselling author and BookTok sensation Carissa Broadbent returns with a brand new novel in the Crowns of Nyaxia series, Songbird and the Heart of Stone, where A Court of Thorns and Roses meets Dante’s Inferno, in an epic fantasy romance of love and treachery between mortals and gods.”

Servant of Earth by Sarah Hawley. Release date: November 19th. In the underground Fae realm, only the strongest and most ruthless have power—but a young human woman forced into a life of servitude is about to change everything.”

  1. I’m super excited for Heavenbreaker and The Wren In The Holly Library and I already have most of the others on my tbr too. I’ve just added the ones I hadn’t heard of and am particularly intrigued by Serpent & The Wolf. And Servant Od Earth because it mentioned the fae I hope you enjoy all of these if/when you read them.

  2. I’m going to hold off adding any of these to my TBR. Though I’ve dipped my toes in cozy fantasy, I’m not sure I’m ready for romantasy. But I look forward to reading your thoughts on any you read. 🙂

  3. I have a few put back on my shelves for when I finally feel like diving in to this genre. Some of these sound really good. Romantasy may be single-handedly keeping Book Snake alive!

  4. These covers are all so gorgeous! I think I need to add quite a few of these to my TBR now. The romantasy popularity has been hit or miss with me sometimes, but I’m always open to some good reads. 😀 I’ve been really curious about Heavenbreaker and The Half King, but now I’m curious about just about all of these, haha. Great list!

Thanks Jordan! I need to read more of them to decide if it’s “my” genre, but so far I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read:-)

  5. Yes – this is a sub-genre that often works really well for me. Especially when the ongoing relationship emerges through the mad adventures the poor old protagonists are undergoing. Lindsay Buroker does this particularly well:)). I’ve been tempted by your awesome list – but right now I’m horribly behind with my arcs, so I’m resisting the urge to nick across and see if I can get hold of any of these. Though I’m likely to weaken by tonight… Thank you for sharing! (I think???)
